Luvachicken Posted June 12, 2018 Share Posted June 12, 2018 I've washed our lounge curtains before in my Miele washing machine with no problems. They are dry clean but have never caused a problem and they still didn't cause a problem today. What HAS caused the problem is what I washed them with - a Bold liquitab - and now my curtains have purple splodges on them - they are cream. My washing machine has a curtain wash button and I think this was the problem. It gives the curtains like a dust wash before it washes them properly. Unfortunately I had to wash the curtains separately and didn't spot the purple blobs on the first one before I'd put the second one in. I washed the first one again in a straight liquid detergent but the purple blobs are still there. They now both have purple splodges on. I was going to phone Bold after I get in from work tomorrow but just wondered if any of you have any ideas Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
AndyRoo Posted June 12, 2018 Share Posted June 12, 2018 What material are they? I'm just wondering if you could try putting them on a long wash that includes a pre-wash and an extended rinse cycle? If that doesn't work, I suppose you could try some Dylon pre-dye and then dyeing them back to beige/cream with a Dylon machine pod or something like that? I phoned them again just now to say that it didn't work, and that hubby and I said that you can mostly see it when the sun is on them, and since we shut the curtains at night we're hoping you can't see the blobs and for them not to worry. They have asked us to send in some photos and that they will do their best but not sure what that means. I got mine from Quilt Direct at £2.50 for a small bottle - you don't use much at a time so a little goes a long way. Hope you get some response from the company! After sending the photos they then asked for the washing label, so I had to admit that they were dry clean only to which they said they could no longer help. My own fault really but they always washed so well despite being dry clean. I know now not to use a pod on the curtain button on my washing machine. Going to try the Vanish soap bar for now and if that doesn't work will try Synthrapol. At least it's hot enough to get the curtains dry. Valkyrie Posted July 4, 2018 Share Posted July 4, 2018 You can always borrow some of mine - I have a large bottle of the stuff (forward thinking) - those red batiks have had so many washes before the water runs reasonably clear. Of course I now haven't bought any red to test it on, although I have done others using Retayne - which fixes the colour. You don't need much in a wash. Luvachicken Posted July 4, 2018 Author Share Posted July 4, 2018 I must admit the stains were quite purple to start with but having washed them and pegged them in the sun the blobs have faded to a grey. I reckon with more washing the stains will eventually come out - although hubby thinks the curtains will fall apart - I've told him they are nowhere near falling apart. The top end of the prop is being utilised to prod wood pigeons up the bee tee em when they want to start nesting under the bedroom window. I have no idea where the other half got to! I know what you mean though - they sit on our roof and coo which sounds quaint, rustic and lovely but is b****y annoying at 5.45am. Maybe I should invest in a clothes prop! Sorry, nothing to do with curtains (curtains for the pigeons - I wish!) Glad to hear the marks are fading though! Valkyrie Posted July 5, 2018 Share Posted July 5, 2018 According to a relative - our wood pigeons "shout"! And they certainly seem to try and drown out all the other birds! When we stayed at their place I did notice a big difference with the Somerset cooing being more refined. We have a pergola outside the bedroom window and when the rose leafs up lovely and makes a nice shady spot underneath - they make a beeline for it! I poke them from above with the loft hatch pole from the window. So now they are nesting in next doors ivy on the other side out the front so peace once more on the western front. Usually I have several sessions each year to persuade them that this is not the des res they are looking for - no, I'm not a Jedi knight because I have to use a different sort of force! I did wonder where wood pigeons fitted in My dad got one that was trying to nest in his Rowan with the jet from his hosepipe, right up its bottom. That did the trick.
