Cinnamon
Hi Shirl, have a look on my album (link below). I think there are some piccys of Sherbert around that age. A comb should be developing at that sort of age,if that helps.

Snowy
Aaah, they are lovely - Pekins are such cute little chickens aren't they? Just testing my newly acquired chicken knowledge here, but I would guess that the buff and lavender are maybe point of lay - 18 - 20 weeks, with the black being a week or two younger. Hopefully Claret or Dilly will be along shortly to confirm (or not!)
The Dogmother
Confirmed Snowy! Buff and lavender are around 18 weeks and the black one (looks so much like my old Layla - RIP) is about 15-16 weeks. They get so much bossier when they start to lay and so full of character. One of mine - Lavinia (yes, she's a lavender) has a fixation for scratching on noisy things, so any compost bags, wheel barrows, leaves or pieces of fence panel get scratched like mad and she makes a real racket too! When they start to lap dance (crouch) for you, then they are about a week away from laying. Don't forget though that they will start to lay later at this time of year.. say around 22-24 weeks as they mature more slowly. This has its plus side, as it means that the may continue to lay (albeit less often) through the winter.

Shirl
So best case scenario they could be 20 weeks and lay at 22! That would be fab. I was thinking I would have to wait until net spring. I guess if they're only 18 weeks and ready to lay at 24 weeks then it might be too late in the year so would have to wait until next spring for eggs. Thanks how I love this forum
