Footie thread is here now...

Yep support your local team, fortunately my local team is the team. :)

You not studying geography this year?

I think that you'd have to drive past Redditch United or Solihull Moors to get to V*ll* P*rk, possibly even Coventry City is closer to Stratford than Birmingham is!!

Closest to Stratford must be Evesham United who coincidently "ground share" with Worcester City so perhaps a visit to Worcester's St Georges Lane to support your "local" team might happen soon??

ps

do you know Ebbsfleet are live on setanta this week?

I saw Worcester City play @ Accrington in the FA Cup 1st round a couple of seasons ago (draw 2-2) beat them in the replay. It was the season Accrington got promoted into the league. The second round we got a home tie to Huddersfield and lost 1-0 live on MOTD. The 3rd round draw was made straight after the final whistle and Huddersfield who we'd just lost to got Chelsea at Stamford bridge.

Looking at the 2nd Photo, did you get very wet!!!!

This made me laugh, taken from today's BBC Sport gossip column

Currently injured Wayne Rooney has gone back to studying for his GCSEs. (Daily Mail)

Does that mean that his obscene rants at referees will sound vaguely intellectual now?

he's a way to go yet... has to get through his Key Stage 3 SATS first....

And it's about time we updated the table....

this is two rounds of predictions - outstanding performer being Dan - who (for the first time in a very long time) totally out-predicted Debs!!

Debs, though, has slightly stretched her lead - so is still top - and still in the Princess booth waiting to grab Phil's tiara....

the table as it stands...

Debs -68

Helen - 63

Lorna - 63

Chelsea - 60

Martin – 59

Dan – 53

Clash – 51

Phil - 48

Emma - 45

Ali - 39

Annie - 33

If Tom wants to join in - then I can give him a leg up and add him in on the same number of points s AnnieP.... see how high he can climb???

Well, Gooner Boy and Gooner Girl will be watching Sevilla v "Ooops, word censored!"nal with great interest tonight (unfortunately not in Sevilla). There's nothing like cheering your side on in the Champions League. Apparently Gallas is being rested tonight, so he should be nice and fresh for the hattrick he's going to get on Saturday :D

Awww Tom - i only agreed you could watch the game with me cos I thought you were whisking me off to a foreign country! Sigh... You only meant you were coming round mine on a wet dark tuesday night instead to watch the box?! But I'd already packed my bikini... :?

Can't wait to see Gallas get that hatrick saturday and Martin eat his words!

No, sadly real life gets in the way of such plans. Once the game is over, I'll most likely have to run (or be driven?) home fairly swiftly so that I can get on with my essay about Brechtian stagecraft. Riveting.

The only word I have ever needed when encountering anyone who knows anything about Brecht (admittedly not very often!!) - is the word "Verfremdungseffekt" which, when spoken with authority and cod German accent usually moves the conversation on to lighter matters...

so.. I fully expect you to weave the word into your essay (and add me to the footnotes...)

actually...

if footie is compared to a theatrical performance (to keep this on topic) - which is the most Brechtian experience - watching "Ooops, word censored!"nal or watching Bolton - which requires more stagecraft effort to shatter the suspension of disbelief??

Haha, my essay is basically about Verfremdung and said 'effekt' and its been used to many times that I'm now just shortening it to V-effekt. I've also used the exciting terms 'Gestus' and 'Lehrstucke', whilst also making reference to the use of humour in Brecht's Die Mutter. It's certainly testing my A-Level knowledge of German, if nothing else.

Speaking of disbelief, have you got over the fact that Bolton won a game on Saturday, Phil?

Perhaps one day I'll even go to a real-life football match.......

Actually I prefer the much more expressive (and school-boy) contraction: VD-effekt 8)

Watching Bolton is a constant suspension of disbelief - I just can't believe it can get any worse.... Oh "Ooops, word censored!" - it can!!!

another german word to get in there - see if u can squeeze it in - is my favourite german word - luftkissenfahrzeug - hovercraft - literally (I think) "air-kissing-flying-thing"

fav useful german word - schadenfreude - and it's modern-day derivative (uttered when anything bad happens to manU) - schadenfreudtastic!

anyway... saw this and thought of you :)
