DanTheChickenMan
Hello All Before I start my next smallholding project, I just wanted to be sure that it is Ok to add two Kune Kune Boars to my paddock. We are talking about 0.5 acre and the chickens free range currently. Want to be sure they can mix OK. Thanks DAniel
The Dogmother
you'll soon have 0.5 acres of ploughed up mud! It's up to you, personally I wouldn't mix them because of the cross-contamination worm-wise, but it's your call. I wouldn't think the chooks would be too happy with all that mud. Just a thought - are you keeping the boars entire? You do realise that they will fight once they reach sexual maturity, and their meat won't be edible if they are entire? I'm sure that you have read up on this, but just thought it worth mentioning.
DanTheChickenMan
Hello Dogmother, I did read into this and was given the impression that although Kune Kunes do dig a little, it is not often or on a similar scale to other breeds. Am I incorrect here? No these are castrated....
The Dogmother
Ahhh, so Barrows, not Boars then? I know someone who has a few - they got them for meat before realising that the meat isn't particularly nice 🤔 from what I have seen, they don't dig as much, but are still pretty destructive.
