The Dogmother
Thankfully, we're fine Cathy and the street is ok - just missed it by the looks of it. It was incredibly noisy last night, but I wasn't awake enough to get up and have a look - did manage to slap Biscuit though when he was rocketing around my bedroom
Snowy
That was a bit close Clare! Glad you are all OK!
The Dogmother
I am a bit pleased actually, do you remember all the hassle with my attic room renovations, then the room flooding after the floods earlier in the year? Well, I went up there this morning when it weas pelting down, and it was dry as a bone so all those leaks must've been due to the freak conditions. Nah - I would block out most of the map these days I do love weather though, & would have loved to have studied it at Uni or something - Tornadoes are my favourite & a chasing holiday in the USA is on my to do list one day Impressive photos Clare - a lot of the damage was in Farnborough which is pretty near to me

The Dogmother
I've been near two earthquakes, and yes the earth did move. And a rather nasty tropical storm in the far east - brilliant!
Cinnamon
Earthquakes - wow! When we went to Cephallonia a few years ago I was desperate to experience an Earthquake (well, small tremor really), but we missed one by just 2 days. It sloshed half the water out of the swimming pool, apparantly
Laura & CTB
There was an earthquake a few years ago in Bottesford near Nottingham, where my parents live. We were sat round having a cup of tea when the ground shook and there was this noise like an explosion - I thought next door's boiler had blown up Everyone went out into the street to have a good look round to see who's roof was missing but as there was no damage anywhere we were all walking round looking puzzled, scratching heads etc. Later it was on the news about it being an earthquake. Egluntyne
We had an earthquake in Sheffield a few years ago. It woke us up and it broke one of the panes in the leaded lights that we had at the time. We certainly felt the earth move though.
The Dogmother
The first one was in Bangkok, associated with an earthquake on one of the borders. I was staying with some friends and we were having dinner when the light fitting started to sway and the table was shaking, we ran out onto the balcony in time to see an enormous crack appear across the tennis court below. The 2nd was in Crete, there was a tremendous storm one night and loads of us were down by the pool watching the sea break over the hotel terrace, when the earth started to move and trees were shaking. Both were exhilarating rather than frightening.
Cinnamon
Its thundering & lightning here at the moment,& tipping it down too. Pitch black - I have the office light on. The girls will be furious- I told them not to bother taking their coats & brollies as it would be dry all day (thata what they said this morning on Virgin )
The Dogmother
Uh oh, we'll be getting that soon then, we always get your weather The forecast I heard said sharp showers in the afternoon - and we had one of those at lunchtime. Charlottechicken
They have used a totally different scale to how Tornadoes should be & usually are staged - the Fujita scale. That runs from 1-5 wih 1 the smallest & 5 the biggest. Makes it very confusing & some may think it was an F4, when it was probably only an F1or F2 This is an interesting site, Sarah, it suggests that the fujita scale actually goes up to F12, but even the big American storms never get beyond F5. Not sure I'd want to experience an F12 http://www.torro.org.uk/torro/severeweather/Tscaleorigin.php Ooh, Clare, those pics are dreadful (if you know what I mean ) Was your home OK? I have experienced a couple of earthquakes here in Brum. One was in the early 90's, and I was working on the 16th floor at the time. It was about 2.30 in the afternoon, we all bounced all over the office in our chairs, everything shook, and several of us asked to leave early! I walked down the stairs that time The last earthquake was only a few years ago in the middle of the night, I woke just as it started, it sounded like a freight train coming, and everything shook sideways, very odd. The epicentre was the Black Country, they get a lot there apparantly Both were 5. something on the Richter scale.
The Dogmother
Ooh, Clare, those pics are dreadful (if you know what I mean ) Was your home OK? Our house was fine, thanks Claire. Although I did rush out in the morning to check the slates front and back I managed to miss the last UK earthquake - Phil said that it woke him up though... he is a very light sleeper. Although I did rush out in the morning to check the slates front and back I managed to miss the last UK earthquake - Phil said that it woke him up though... he is a very light sleeper. I found a stray roof slate next to my car I don't think it's mine as it is too new, although it has come off a roof! I am a heavy sleeper Clare, I have been known to sleep through all manner of storms, but the shaking and the noise was quite loud. It is a weird experience that's for sure
The Dogmother
I can normally sleep through anything too, except for Rosie callign me. But that had me awake. Hang on to the slate - they're expensive
Snowy
Funnily enough I've just posted about the Birmingham earthquake in Gina's thread! I was pregnant with Dan at the time and was in bed reading in the small hours. I remember a strange sound, sort of faint whoosh, then the whole bed bounced straight up and crashed down again! OH was out on nights, DS1 and the dog slept through it, but I was terrified! Very scary experience. Not exhilarating - Clare you're mad!
