skye
Really sad for you Cookie, must have been a horrible decision to make. But look at it that you've improved the quality of Maud, Daisy and Queenie's out of all recognition. Don't want to sound patronising but I think what you did this morning was incredibly brave. chickencam
Most of the time the creatures in our lives bring us joy but occasionaly we have to make tough decisions. The only way now is UP
Richard
Hi I know I've been rather frivolous in some of my postings but its my way of dealing with stuff. I think you have been great over this whole business. When I had to dispatch Doris I was very upset - but it was for the best, and the same applies to you and Betsy. well done. I think you can be proud of what you have done. You should now do your grieving, then get on with looking after, and enjoying, the others. all the very best. moochoo
Sorry to hear about the tough choice you had to make at the vets but as everyone else has said it was for the best. At least your other girls can recooperate quickly without the worry of a new attack.

Jules.
Cookie, I don't know what to say, apart from I think that was the only choice you had. it's still really sad for you, though.
Couperman
You made the right if very difficult choice. Try not to get upset, if you hadn't had her put to sleep she would have seen the others off and you would have had to do it anyway at some point. At least now you don't have the additional worry of how to fix an unfixable problem. You went above and beyond the call of duty to try and sort it out, it's a shame she only left you one option. Chin up. Kev.
Cookie
I know I've said it before, but I'lll say it again - you have all been really lovely and supportive, and have made the whole horrible process much easier. Thank you again. I felt much better about it all as the weekend went on and I saw how harmonious Daisy, Maud & Queenie are without Betsy bullying them. I know I made the right decision now. I am back to enjoying chicken-keeping again! Best wishes, Cookie. xx

There are four much happier creatures around in your garden now - you, Daisy Maud and Queenie. You all deserve some enjoyment!
Guest
I know it's too late for yourself cookie and you have my sympathy, but you made the right decision and spoke to the vet etc, you couldn't have done more. This might help someone in the same boat as you though, not sure if you tried this, I only came across it by accident on another web site. It said if there is a dominant hen that is bullying the others then try "pinning her down in front of the others, to humiliate her". Apparently this sometimes works!? It also said something about laying hens being dominant over non-laying hens and that once non-layers start laying, the bullying tends to stop. Anyway, just repeating what I saw elsewhere. Aunty e
I think you were very brave. Cannibalistic chickens do happen and the misery they cause the other members of their flocks is unbelievable, I don't think anything would have stopped her from what you said, you tried everything you could. I'm really sorry that you had to do it, but it was the best thing to do and done in the kindest possible way.
