Microstead Posted June 17, 2020 Share Posted June 17, 2020 So the girls all came out into the run eventually and had a successful day all in all, (unlike me as I spent more time checking up on them than working from home). They eaten, drunk and pooped lots and even ate the expensive stuff I purchased for their dirt bath if they weren't scratching and kicking it everywhere. I could watch them forever, but they took themselves to bed at 8.15 when I came out to watch them after dinner. My 10 wwek old bantam bluebell kept coming upto me to allow me to pet her and she spent of her time with the 10 week old unnamed hybrid, whilst my 14 week old bantam blacktail and bantam rhodeĀ rock mainly hung out with each other. I'm already planning on getting more š I've moved the go up a bit so I could fit a 1metre extension but I wouldnt be able to use the access doors at the front anymore, only through back for cleaning and egg collectingĀ Has anyone fitted double doors on the side for access instead? Cat tails Posted June 17, 2020 Share Posted June 17, 2020 I think there is a kit to fit a door on the side. How much run do you have now? The standard run plus 1 m? Personally I wouldnāt keep more than 4 bantams in that size run. Microstead Posted June 17, 2020 Author Share Posted June 17, 2020 Hello CT, I have a 4m x 18m garden which they could use, though I'm going to section them off a bit of this as I'd like to keep some of my lawn. I currently have the standard go up with a 2m run. I guess the question is how many bantams co fortably fit into a go up with an additional metre run, in case they can't use the garden because of the weather?Ā Do chickens usually make chirrupING sounds or just the babies? I need to just concentrate on the ones I've just as I'm new to this, but I love miniature's of anthing. The breeder does too hence so many breeds of bantam hybrid hens ( I forgot about the bantam speckledy''s and miss pepper pots and so many others, I want one of each in my dreams really!!!), hence she has miniature sheep and horses and goats aswell.Ā Ā Maybe in the futureĀ I will win the lottery and buy a cube for them all, it's important to have a dream right? 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You have problems with that??? they like to do the egg call while Iām teaching... Keep in mind that with bad weather or a Avian Influenza outbreak, your chickens might be confined permanently to their run. Microstead Posted June 18, 2020 Author Share Posted June 18, 2020 Good morning CT, I know which is why I was thinking about getting an extension for the run ( and some more hybrid bantams) but since I've only had my first ever cooks for 37 hours I need to just concentrate on looking after the ones I have. I only wanted 3 bantams but the breeder recommended getting four as they were different ages and it would minimize the chances of bullying if I bought two of each age and unless they are sleeping,Ā when they all huddle up together, the younger ones keep close each otherĀ and the older two stay near each other so buying four seems to have been the right decision.Ā They are fascinating to watch. Ā Mine roost outside all year round. Ā Ā When you do think about a cube, look for a Mk 1. Ā They are bigger and more robust than the Mk2 in my opinion. Here is a picture of my first ever flock. There's FantaĀ (blacktaiil), Pepsi ( rhodeĀ rock), Vimto Ā (bluebell), and Sprite ( the blue egg laying experiment that intrigues me. It's gold, cream and grey with a crele pattern and a crest and maybe a beaRd?) Its hard to get a photo of them all together!
