FORENSICA
Do you also think that woman's body is a really bad design in that area? Why are those things so close to each other that we get these infections so easily? Anyway, I am runnning to the Dr
Lesley
You're not alone - I have recurrent problems as well. My mother has chronic problems and has to take a low dose antibiotic all the time to prevent it. Good luck at the Dr.s

Olly
I had persistent problem for years when I was younger, leading to kidney infections which are unbelievably painful. I found a solution to mine, though. er ... phrasing this carefully as it's a family forum! a lot of women get cystitis after, um, a particular activity. The answer is to go to the loo immediately after that activity. Hard to do when you are feeling cosy and warm, and yes it does break up the atmospheric moment, but it has the effect of flushing out any bacteria that may have worked their way into the urethra. Make sure you drink plenty, avoid using soap or anything that could cause an allergy, but I think this is the best advice I ever got from a doctor - I hardly ever had it after I learned this. Hope you soon feel better.
Cinnamon
I suffer too, usually about 3 times a year. Last time it spread to my kidneys & I got a full blown kidney infection, which wasn't much fun at all. Drink lots, rest up & you will be better soon
Helly Welly
When i was at college i had many kidney inferctions and was in and out of hospital until i went for a cystoscopy, a camera put in a delicate place! They found that the entrance to the urethra was too small for the camera and had to make a slit but this actually solved the problem and i haven't had a urinary infection for overt 10 years. Made you wince didn't i
chickenlover
I have had exactly the same problem this week, so i rushed off down the docters where they gave me antibiotics, the only problem is that everytime i get a UTI the antibiotics they give me clear it up great but cause an imbalance in me and that gives me thrush!!!! TYPICAL

Aunty e
I hate those infections. Olly's advice did the trick for me when the kindly nurse passed it on, but sometimes it just happens. I consider myself lucky that I only get it once every two years (although it always becomes a kidney infection, no matter what I do to head it off and the doctor wouldn't give me antibiotics this time until I was bent double in pain and throwing up. He's a man). I have a friend who just has it constantly, I don't know how she stands it. Hope you feel better soon.

DizzyLizzie
I had terrible trouble a few years ago with one infection after another - it never seemed to clear up . In the end I used a homeopathic/herbal remedy called Potters Antitis - it contains Uri Urival (spelling?). I took the recommended dose until it cleared up and then one a day for years (until I got pregnant when I stopped all supplements) - it cleared it up and kept it away. I also took cranberry juice tablets which give you the same benefits of the juice without ruining your teeth. I used to get my remedies from my local health food shop. Oh - and drink loads of water. Hope this helps...

xScrunchee
My daughter went through a phase of one infection after another. The paediatrician advised us to not use soap or bubble bath, drink plenty, open bowels regularly as constipation can stop the bladder emptying completely (the main cause of my daughters UTI's ) and drink a probiotic drink every day. She has now not had an infection for quite some time (touch wood) and I really think that the probiotic drink is helping a lot as well as making sure that she has plenty of fluids and fibre to prevent the constipation. She also used to and still does if not reminded-holds her wee untill she is completely busting which really doesn't help neither.
Lesley
She also used to and still does if not reminded-holds her wee untill she is completely busting which really doesn't help neither. um......... that sounds so familiar - I still do it.....and I know I have a bladder/urethra problem and shouldn't ......... and if I'm travelling, I reduce the amount I drink I hate the way that the health professionals make you feel like a sex maniac with hygiene problems - recurring problems very often aren't caused by the aforementioned activity. FORENSICA
chocchick - how would you use the bicarbonate of soda in water? Drink it or bath in it? Anyway, feel much better today, the ATB surely helped.
Olly
You drink it - half a teaspoon to a glass of water, I think. Tastes a bit vile, but it makes your wee alkaline, which reduces the pain and helps to discourage the infection. You can buy a packet of stuff from Boots - Cymalon is one name - they taste a bit nicer, but do the same job. Avoid fruit juice (apart from cranberry) or alcohol as they can make your urine acidic. Glad you feeling better.
The Dogmother
It does taste vile and makes me heave. As Olly said the over the counter stuff tastes much better. *touches wood* I haven't had it for ages now. One forum suggested that if you found it agony to wee, then pour some warm water over your bits when you're weeing. Stress can trigger it too. gooner.girl
The powder sachets you get from places like boots make me want to retch to! I hate that too, but it's the most common cause because lots of people don't wee/wash afterwards.
