Both my girls have inherited my small jaw & both mine & The Hubbys large teeth, hence they have needed a LOT of work done.

When Devon started she first had have jaw stretched by a big blocky retainer, which we had to pay for, then had train tracks on the NHS.

However, now its Cleos turn & the NHS no longer fund any but the most very essential work.

Its done on a points system & she very luckliy s"Ooops, word censored!"ed through, but we still had to fork out hundered on her jaw stretch treatment which has just finished

My daughter is going to get her train tracks off in January - she started off with blocks to stretch her jaw as well and will have wires at the back of her front upper and lower teeth indefinitely ( or until she has finished growing), as well as a night time retainer for a while. It has all been done on the NHS for which I am eternally grateful as it has been going on since she was 9 and she is nearly 15 now. Her teeth look fabulous and the wires are there until her mouth stops changing aftter her wisdom teeth have come through.

By the way, my orthodontist as a kid was Mr Poppadopolus :!: Bit of a mouthful when you are 9 :!:

its been amazing eating and not having to spend ages sucking and slurping the bits out of my brace (nice detailes there) and arron thinks i look lovely without them, which is a releif.

Im very glad to hear that the retainers are almost invisible, i had horrible images of chunky plastic things everywhere.

It was a truly horrible expeirence having braces, i watched this spy film when i was very young and they tortured a man by drilling into his teeth and it has given me a terrible fear of anyone being near my teeth. Stupid i know. But i had a horrid orthadentist, she was one of those women who loves children and babies and obvisouly, me being a teenager and her oldest client, she was horrid to me. i wasnt even alowed to choose the colours of my band,s she just put grey ones on  i got so scared in the end my dad had to come in with me. how pathetic.

This is a picture of me with braces.

Sorry its not very close up, im still not confident about my grin even without braces.

It diesn't help that all the work I had done as a child has left me with a hatred of the dentists.

Me too. When I was a child my  dentist didn't give you injections for fillings even deep ones, and he was not child friendly, like no 'I was good at the dentist today' stickers :( Result I skipped the dentist for years. I sucked my thumb as a child and as a result my two top front teeth were

crossed so I had to have horrible wire braces with a key to tighten them up.

Very recently some of my teeth started getting really wobbly  and I

HAD to go and get them fixed, 4 extractions, but lovely dentist good with v.

nervous patients, and really no pain, but all done privately, cost an arm

and a leg but at least I can eat again and :D You can shop around for

private dentistry it is not a fixed amount, some private dentists charge

more than others. Am eating a packet of Minstrels as I type, must

go and clean teeth

And for those of you with funny dentist names, beat this.

No word of a lie, when I was a child my dentist was called Mr Angel, & his practise partner was Mr Puller 8):lol::lol:

Mine was Mr Payne. He was rather mad (I think he helped himself to the gas when no-one was looking :lol: ) but very good, I still have some of his handiwork in my mouth! His practice is near the BBC Pebble Mill studios (now pulled down), so he used to do celebrities too!

Well we are now private, the same dentist as before, he is lovely, we have a thing called Denplan and in my case it actually works out cheaper than NHS.

Cathy has immaculate teeth so was advised to take the cheap option and pay through the nose if she ever needs work doing which in his opinion was very unlikely.

My teeth however need a little more attention which i now get. We pay a monthly fee and I have already had my moneys worth. Check-ups every three months and hygienist treatments in between.

My school dentist was known as the 'White Angel' and he put me off Dentists until I met a seemingly qualified one with a good bedside manner and a great sense of humour!

The 'White Angel' used to do fillings on small childrens teeth with no Anaesthetic and resorted to Gas for extractions. The little sticker you got never put that right for me.

I used to have major nightmares with gas, I always remember the feeling of falling down a well as my eyes gave up with his face looking down at me. It's a small wonder why my teeth need so much care now. It's funny how childhood fears and memories stick better than chicken poo to a complicated trainer sole isn't it!

Edit: Sorry Jem I forget to congratulate your new SMILE horaay for you

:D:D:D:D

Yes,Devon has a permenant wire behind her front teeth, which is totally invisible, but stops her teeth from shifting again.

It really is amazing what they can do with teeth these days 8)

Our Orth said he had never seen teeth move as easily as Devons, & had never worked on a mouth as over crowded as Cleos

Cleo was going to be admitted to have her teeth out under a GA,but thankfully that are now removing some different teeth,at the dentists.

I am okay with Andrew (current dentist) but the first time he saw me he was not sure he would actually be able to do anything as I was so terrified I was shaking and crying just at the thought of getting in the chair

I really am that scared

If he moves to another practice I will either have to move as well or go through the whole thing again with another dentist

They do cost me alot of money but it seems to be worth it :?

I might not be saying that in May when I go back to have my crown work done

You are looking good Jem

"Ooops, word censored!"ody can understand it Clare

I feel for the dentist he is sooooooo lovely yet he reduces me to a wreck every time

In fact the original dentist in Headington I went to very reluctantly as he was a friend and I was worried I would hate him

Have you tried hypnosis?

When Devon had to have her first 2 teeth out, she was very nervous & was literally flinching from the needle every time Chris put it near her mouth.

So her hypnotised her there & then.

She went into a sort of trance,he injected, removed the teeth & she snapped out of it - it was amazing & she had no problems going back for the removal of her seond 2 teeth :P
