Guest
OK I've said James Dad can have him overnight on Sunday and give him presents on Christmas Eve morning so that they can enjoy some Christmas together. Last year I let his Dad and Nan come over on Christmas morning but the charmer was tired and hungover and a miserable so and so which means I don't want him over this Christmas morning. I explained to James this morning how I'd spoken to Santa and he was going to deliver some presents on Christmas Eve to Nanna's house when James was having his sleepover. I told him that they wouldn't be any of the "special" presents that he has asked santa for as they will come her on Christmas day (I don't want him upset all day because he doesnt' have that sack barrow he's been asking for for about the last six months). He seemed quite OK with the whole idea and to understand what I was saying. I just hope he gets all overexcited and won't go to sleep the night before like he does for us every Christmas Eve. His father won't remember that as he was always down the pub whilst I was trying desperately to get an overtired, overexcited child to bed. Be nice if he realised its not much fun! Egluntyne
Oooh, I think it is loads of fun having an eager child all agog and full of wonderment on Christmas Eve. It is one of the more special aspects of parenthood. Cherish the times, Peng.....he'll have left home before you know it!
Karen & co.
That sounds like a good idea James will love it and you get to have him for Christmas morning, it will be magical karen x
craftyhunnypie
Must be lovely having excitable children & all the magic of Santa! I think Christmas is wonderful for children, shame we have to grow up. Emma.x
Ain't Nobody Here
Sounds like a good plan - and you'll have a nice Christmas day without having to see the good for nothing so-and-so (I'm assuming that's what he is?) .
Basset
Lucky James having double the Christmas fun and excitement! I bet he'll love it and have a fab time!! And you'll have Christmas Eve free to get everything ready for Christmas Day. We have a big family Christmas Eve celebration with lots of vegetarian and fish dishes (my favourite dinner of the whole year) and Father Christmas personally delivers our pressies for us to open on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas Day we have stockings and the usual Christmas Dinner. It's lovely to enjoy Christmas through the Children's eyes.
Snowy
And I hope you've warned your ex that James will probably be up at silly o'clock to open his pressies Pengy?
xScrunchee
I love it when my children are too excited to go to sleep on Christmas eve. If anything-I make them worse by popping in the bedroom and asking if they just heard Father Christmas' bells and whispering that I think he's getting close!! I am then the one who gets up early and wakes them to say that Father Christmas has been. It's all part of the fun and this magical time is over before you know it so I like to enjoy every second
Laura & CTB
Sounds like a good plan there Pengy Dont know about anyone else but when I were a nipper my Mum drummed into me every Christmas Eve just how important it was for me to go to sleep or else Father Christmas wouldn't come I remember looking at the clock at midnight saying to myself "must go to sleep, must go to sleep" psychologically impossible
Jules.
I find it hard to sleep on Christmas Eve! and my birthday eve
Guest
Sorry but putting him back to bed 10 times on Christmas Eve is not my idea of fun, last year it was near 10pm I was ready for bed myself and I still had to wrap all his presents!!!! I also hope he gets up at silly o clock for his Dad - who will be double grumpy. I suspect his Dad will just leave James with his mum or girlfriend in the evening as the pub will be open. Mind you its a bit of a so and so him being there all day Christmas Eve, they will probably get all the presents they've bought out of the boxes which means I cant use them as a ready supply of party gifts all year like I did last year. His Dad bought him loads of cars, 2 were the same as ones he'd bought before and even James was opening them and going "oh another car, I've got that one" so I popped them all away and used them as party gifts. Thought is not one of his fathers strong points. Like the year he wasn't around on my birthday and when I phoned him he said he was "waiting for your present to be delivered to mums" when he FINALLY arrifed home with the present it was a candle from the Betterware catalogue!!!! Guest
You know I@d have said that if he'd spent any time with me, but he came home at 6.45 with the candle and went to the pub at 7.15!
The Dogmother
I hope that you enjoy your Christmas with James, Pengy - it's a magical time of the year and having small children makes it even better. Rosie and I get excited in equal parts at Christmas and can't wait to get downstairs and see if Father Christmas has been - we will be prancing around in our PJs! Treasure these moments Hon - as the others have said, they'll be over before you know it. Rosie doesn't believe this year, but isn't letting on as she loves the magic too... send him over to me if you like - the more little 'uns the merrier; he'll have a great time. Happy brithday for Christmas day Jules - I'm on new years day, so a week ahead of you - we must both be special
Jules.
Thanks for the birthday greeting Claret .... but my birthday is in July- American Independance day! What I meant to convey is that I get really excited the night before my birthday, it's a bit like Christmas eve excitement!

Guest
I do enjoy the excitement of Christmas morning, and I'm usually first up Same with birthdays although my ex did his best to suck the joy out of both. Its just the excitement on Christmas eve when I can't get him to sleep and I have a ton of stuff to do. My plan this year is to get his Dad to bring him back close to bedtime THEN take him in the hot tub for half hour, its set at 38.5 degrees and when you have fully hit that temp you feel sleepy.... Jules.
The hot tub sounds like a good idea Pengy-can I send my boys round too? It seems to me that you have come up with the best solution to your Christmas dilemma, & I hope that you, James & your mum have a lovely Christmas together. James is a very special boy to have a mummy like you.
Guest
awww thanks. Still think he'd be better with somone who likes children though! Actually he didn't really want to go to Daddy's cos I'm away Friday night and he said he'd miss me too much. Not having that nonsense though - I like a holiday by myself each year and this year I'm looking to nip over to Canada and visit my friend for a week at Easter cos our school is having their Easter holidays a week later than the rest of the country - if I take him with me it'll cost me double, mean taking him out of school and bore him silly cos I don't do kiddie stuff! Jules.
Lovely- my parents went there at Easter once- wrap up warm.... Easter is early next year! Some of the falls were frozen when they were there. My dad has cousins in Portsmouth, Ohio (who they were staying with ) & you know what Americans are like for driving vast distances, they went to Niagra for a 2 day trip
Guest
Last time I went at Easter (easter is exactly the same time - school holidays are fixed so its a week AFTER the easter break -ours is 2 weeks after) it was unseasonably warm and we were wearing T shirts. Some of the falls were still frozen though.
