Egluntyne
Claret doesn't watch telly. I have occasional rushes of blood to my head and do housework in the evening. Won't be having one tonight though.
The Dogmother
Sorry Vicki, I missed that one! I don't do telly, except when ironing. I have to be organised because spare time is scarce - I work a 40 hour week and bring Rosie up on my own.. Unless I schedule a night for something, it doesn't get done. I love housework, but only when I can do it during the day and not when I'm knackered! Sorry, nerd here
Tessa the Duchess
I use Ecover w.u.liquid, have never had a problem with greasy dishes. I also use the dishwasher tablets, the toilet cleaner, the cream cleaner and the handwash. I don't like the smell of the toilet cleaner and I wish they would do the handwash in something other than lavender, I associate lavender with old ladies The only thing I don't use Ecover for is in the washing machine, just doesn't get rid of stains imho. I lived in a very hard water area and find the best thing for limescale is bicarb and lemon juice. I use vinegar and newspaper to clean the windows, just as my mum did Tessa

I'm in awe that you manage it all on your own especially working a 40 hr week. I wish I didn't watch TV - although I'm watching a lot less since I met you lot . Good on you, I say . The Dogmother
I have to admit to popping on the forum at the end of the evening though... just to keep an eye on things you understand
Cinnamon
I bought the Method Handwash yesterday,as that was the only thing I was out of. It smells lovely,I got fresh water scent, & its not at all drying Tesco did about 3 different smells of it,I think
The Dogmother
Tesco also have a BNatural range in their toiletries section. Unfortunately most of the washes and shampoos contain SLS, but their Organic Handwash doesn't and smells divine. I tried the metal polish approach on the shower cubicle, but it didn't shift the marks - thanks anyway for the advice. I also tried some Ecover limescale remover (again) with a gentle plastic scourer and that didn't have any effect either *shrugs* guess I'll just have to live with it. chrisnrob
that didn't have any effect either *shrugs* guess I'll just have to live with it. According to videojug.com, you need to use a cream cleaner and a plastic scourer (or even a metal one if it's really bad!) Ecover do a cream cleaner I think...? The Dogmother
I'll give that a go too Rob.. thanks

Rob I didn't mention that - I just assumed you'd have tried that first That's what I use on limescale marks.
The Dogmother
I'd previously been using limescale cleaner with a plastic washing up brush - none of that had any effect either; it's almost as if the glass is etched!
Lesley
For stuff like that, I 'paint' it with vinegar, leave to soak as much as possible and scrub with a green scotchbrite pad, then if there is any limescale left I use the green pad and cream cleaner. The Dogmother
OK I've tried: Vinegar and scrubbing with scourer Limescale remover (both chemical and otherwise) with and without scrubbing Metal polish (both silver polish and Brasso) Cream cleaner Still blooming well defeats me, and it makes the shower glass look dirty! Egluntyne
Do you mean the horrible little grey speckles that remain....no matter what. From all the cleaning books I have read, there is no way to shift them at all once they are there...... .....and if you are in a hard water area.....no chance. Pants innit? The Dogmother
Yup, we are in a hard water area here - not as bad as it was in London, but not far off. The glass just looks like it has limescale marks on it - but it isn't limescale if you get my drift. Whatever it is, seems to resist all chemical and physical efforts to get it off
Charlottechicken
I had a look in my 'How clean is your house' book Clare, and vinegar is the cleaner of choice for Kim and Aggie regarding limescale stains Pity it doesn't work then Do you think an abrasive would shift it? (I'm thinking a fine sanding block now )
The Dogmother
Might have to get my 'mouse' sander onto it then I have tried cream cleaner and plastic scourers. Shall we have an Omlet 'brainstorming session' in my bathroom and see if any of us can shift it?
Charlottechicken
Shall we have an Omlet 'brainstorming session' in my bathroom and see if any of us can shift it? Good idea! I hate modern glass as it appears to have a sort of 'film' over it which seems to make it hard to clean, like some sort of plastic coating. My mum has one Victorian window left in her house, and the glass is so cold to touch, has a few 'inclusions' and if you bend your knees then stand up, anything viewed through the glass wobbles! Having said that it is the clearest piece of glass I have seen, it is almost like crystal.
The Dogmother
Unfortunately, all the windows in my house have been replaced but my office was built in 1876 and still has lots of the original glass and it's all wobbly too - I much prefer it. Phil has Pilkingtons glass in his skylights - I can't remember the name of it, but it's more or less self-cleaning; ckever, but expensive! Tell you what - you all come round with your marigolds and cleaning solutions and I'll provide tea and homemade cake
Lesley
I think you should give it a really good scouring.... and turn it into frosted glass!
The Dogmother
Now there's an idea... get a sand blaster onto it!
Chicken Licken
I have ecover washing liquid - the one with the blue lid is better than the green lid! Also squirteco - multi cleaner which smells lovely!!! I also have the tesco's own eco non bio tablets which are good but don't always dissolve fully ( although my machine is old). I have the ecover fabric softener which smells lovely. I also have the ecover limescale remover (in a blue lidded squirty - it doens't smell as nice as the bathroom cleaner but helps to keep the limescale under control as long as it has not built up too much. The multi cleaner is fab and I use it for mopping the floor and cleaning out the girls - I am a convert.
Charlottechicken
Now there's an idea... get a sand blaster onto it! You can buy window frosting (if that's what you call it!) in a can, just spray on. Or how about glass painting a design on the dry side to cover the marks. you can also buy frosted window sheets, but probably no good for a shower screen, as they adhere with the aid of soapy water. aliski
Does anyone use the soap 'nuts' you can get from places like Lakeland (Plastics as was). Do they work and how much do you use? We live in an area of extremely hard water and it say 5-7 halves, but looking in the box I cant see many halves of nuts!! If I dont buy this whats the best green washing machine powder/liquid etc Aliski 2 exbats 1 rescue 1/2 banty 1 terrified cat (of the chooks) 2 rabbits 1 teenage girl help! 1 Hubby
