MedusA
I do stained glass as a hobby. I made all my family little "figgy puddings" for Christmas this year, which went down very well. Really must to a chicken design....
Snowy
We need photos! I love stained glass, have never done it myself though. Had a go at glass painting a while back - loved it! A stained glass chicken would be fab!

MedusA
Thanks for the interest. I will try and set up a photo account so I can post some pics. Cheryl - I would love to be able to make a living out of stained glass. What sort of stained glass work do you do?
Cheryl
Hello Medusa, Well I do mostly windows, I design remake and renovate them, I only do domestic work, my customers are people who'd like to put the wow factor into their front door by putting what should have been there in the first place, or any internal doors or fanlights.... I did start out by making lots of foiled projects such as mirrors and light catchers, I attended many craft fairs and it was very enjoyable , but I've gone up a level or two and 12 years later I'm working at home, and have a steady flow of customers, which is lovely.... If you ever want help or anything with your interest please contact me, I did of bit of teaching in the subject, and I am really happy to pass on anything that could be of use... Its a lovely hobby.. have fun xx
MedusA
Thanks for the offer Cheryl. I am so envious of you having the talent to make a living out of it. I'm still such a novice. My glass cutting is OK but my soldering is rubbish!!!! I hope it will improve with (lots of) practice. I'm in the middle of making my first leaded panels - for a door between the hall and kitchen. I'm finding working with lead very different to foil work. Anyway - managed to upload a few pics of previous pieces. So here goes... http://s227.photobucket.com/albums/dd41/MedusA72/Stained%20Glass/

Cheryl
well well...we have an artist here!these pics are fab. i love the puddy one.. yeah the method for windows is totally different but nothing you couldnt learn..the hardest bit is cutting the glass and youve mastered that for sure! Egluntyne
Gosh...how clever....and lovely. My friend has just got rid of her hideous (she wouldn't mind me saying that) 1980's UPVC windows and had to replace them with hard wood windows of the original design as her house is in a conservation area. They found one of the original leaded light features in an outhouse and got someone to copy it and have put them in the top bits if you see what I mean. Cost megabucks but looks stunning. MedusA
Thank you for the help with posting the pics and for all for your kind words. I took a night class last year. I've stopped going now because my teacher retired but I guess I now have the knowledge and just need to develop the skills I have thought about selling some on ebay - maybe next Christmas, but it's a little to soon to say it could become a career, like Cheryl. BTW Cheryl, where do you get your supplies from? My local supplier is closing down and I thought about trying the internet. Have you got any experience of ordering stuff in this way? MedusA
Thanks Cheryl and Egluntine for the links. I've had a look at some of the sites and they look very interesting. I have bought from Birmingham Glass Studios before, but understood they were closing down. I'll have to go and check. It's so much nicer to go and look at glass yourself, rather than trying to pick it out from a picture.
Karen & co.
Ooh I love stained glass I had a lovely Christmas present a few years ago from my OH, and it was a residential leaded panel making course at Burton Manor on the Wirrel. I had a great time and made a 'Macintosh' type rose panel, although I'm, sure the man himself would be spinning in his grave it now hangs in the downstairs toilet across the window I'd like to do the front door but am afraid of making a mess Karen x
The Dogmother
My friend has just got rid of her hideous (she wouldn't mind me saying that) 1980's UPVC windows and had to replace them with hard wood windows of the original design as her house is in a conservation area. They found one of the original leaded light features in an outhouse and got someone to copy it and have put them in the top bits if you see what I mean. Cost megabucks but looks stunning. My ambition is to do that - I live in a Victorian terraced house and the windows were all replaced with UPVC by the previous owners. I got a quote a couple of years ago to have the front bay replaced with the original style hardwood sashes and I'd have to sell both my kidneys to fund it
