TAJ
To go in the eglu that arrived yesterday I have now been to the domestic fowl trust near Evesham and have a light sussex, a blackrock and a bluebelle - only day one, but the blackrock seems to think she is boss. The light sussex is 22 weeks old and apparently laying, the other two are 18 weeks - so I await my first egg! Names still to be agreed with their characters - so far: nutmeg (blackrock with a lot of brown), Rye (Light Sussex, after the town in sussex where we lived along time ago and bella for the bluebelle - for not sure on this last one as yet. TAJ
All settled in last night fine - a bit of noise early evening before I locked them up as the cat took a closer look. I let them out this morning and within 5 mins the cat decided to take a closer look and ran at the run before I could stop him and they looked a bit panicked and made a lot of noise - but he has kept away since, so I think the girls may have given him a scare back. I will try to take some photos today and workout how to load them up. Tracy

Ana's flock
...now there are 7 hens and Kingston, a lovely Maran cockerel (we also had Kevin but he passed away last November). It's an addictive hobbie but it also gives you eggies, the tastiest and yellowest ones I've had in my life. The hens are also great at getting rid of slugs in the garden and keeping the grass short (plus fertilising it nicely!).':?' The fact is that now I have no longer a lawn but a mud field with some sad wee blades of grass pocking shyly amongst the chicken foot prints, but I'm hoping once the good weather starts we'll be having a lush, rich lawn - certainly no slugs or moss! '' Best of luck with your new friends - enjoy!
Hen Watch
Congratulations on your new arrivals. My lot make "bawk, bawk" noises at neighbouring cats too. Mind you, they didn't like next door's window cleaner when he was up a ladder, they went potty - must have thought he was a big bird.....!!!
