Yorkshire Pudding
Will you be post-doc-ing or looking further afield for your next venture? Are you both academics-what subject? I hope to do medical writing. OH is still post-doc-ing after ten years - plant molecular biology. I stopped after the PhD (plant pathology/nematology) and went into teaching - the academic career wasn't for me, and finding jobs for two post-docs in the same country, let alone the same town, would have been difficult. Plus the teaching part of my PhD was better than the research for me! I haven't regretted the choice for a moment; I love it. Friends went into medical writing and enjoy it, OH looked into it but by then we were settled with a family and it would have meant relocating. I hope you find the job you want! I enjoy the writing/theory/research but not the academic environment/labwork! OH is tied in Sheffield so I wouldn't really want to move. I want to find medical writing in the northwest or else find another pharma job relatively locally.
Yorkshire Pudding
That's pretty much the same situation we had, but neither of us had many pharm options having gone into plant research - most of that is in the South-East or East Anglia. Fingers crossed for the job hunt - OH did look at med writing posts based in Manchester but got a new grant here instead, so we didn't have to move - lucky because my job is in the opposite direction. Will you be doing the graduation and what colour gown do they make you wear? Ours was gross - sludge green with orange piping , rather than the lovely red numbers most unis seem to favour! chocchick
From the uni website... I'm a bit worried by his white face it looks like he has clown make-up on to me
Yorkshire Pudding
I would have thought the clown makeup was optional! Much nicer than ours - but no pics on the website, just a description: Hood green lined with green with a narrow binding of scarlet - orange, more like Gown green with sleeve linings of green and facings of green bound with scarlet - oh no it isn't - see above! Cap is black velvet and shaped like a cowpat not a mortar board Yours is much more attractive!
ubereglu
Well Done Chocchick. I have a feeling that my sister's fiance has his this month. He will hopefully get a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Not sure which uni he went to but most of it was out in industry and working in Teeside.
SarahJo
Excellent news Choccy - well done. I have now sacked the medical writing idea, and work term time and school hours, as a biology and general science lab technician at a school. This siuts me down to the ground, as I still have loads of time for the family, and use my degree also. . Have a good weekend of celebrating. Egluntyne
People will assume you are a medic and describe their bodily functions to you. If you are really unlucky they will show you hideous body parts too.
