Hello All

New to posting here but have been reading your comments for the last few weeks.

Yesterday I assembled my new eglu cube and run and this morning am going to collect four chicks

However please advise me on what to line the nesting box with and weather you put wood shavings in the roosting area

Your advise and comments really appreciated.

I use Aubiose. It is super absorbant and compostable!

 

Wood shavings get soggy and can harbour parasites I believe.

I also use aubiose in the nest topped with a bit of straw (but that's not necessary - I just like it )

I use straw because hemcore just feel straight through the hole. I could put paper over the hole but am too lazy

i use either paper cuttings (from a paper shredder) or shrededed newspaper. Howeber i think i will use Aubiose soon.

have always used shredder paper. A: the girls like it (so they tell me!) and B. It makes good compost.

I use Shredded paper and wood shavings. In the poo tray I line it with sheets of newspaper to allow for easy cleaning and removal in the mornings.

I line the nestbox with a couple of sheets of kitchen roll or newspaper, easy to remove and replace quickly in the morning if a hen decides to sleep and poop in there during the night.

 

The poop tray is lined with newspaper, again easy to scoop up and dispose of

the tray has a few shets of newspaper, but the nesting box has nowt in it at all, mine only lay in it so no need for anything.

Hemcore, and lots of it, my chooks like to sleep in the nestbox aswell as lay in it - so it tends to get pooey!

Hi glatz167,

I use Auboise (similar to Hemcore) which I buy in a bale from a horse supply shop. (Look in Yellow Pages for a Horse Tack Shop).

I use cross-shredded paper and a little bit of hemcore in the nestbox and sheets of newspaper & a bit of shredded paper in the tray.
