Mrs Webmuppet
Hi, I've seen this hen coop on ebay - is it any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330208753287&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014 Opinions please ...................... Tessa the Duchess
It looks ok. What is black ppc wire? Is it strong enough to be foxproof? Tessa
Egluntyne
No idea . Googled it and the only thing I could come up with is that it doesn't rust. The house looks OK Mrs W but you might need to place it on paving slabs to prevent rodents tunnelling in from below, and will need to cover the open bit of the run to prevent rain getting in. Guest
it's the exact same one as we have, we bought it from the same seller and we have had no problems with it. We paid £119 so if you get it for less than that then you're doing well
craftyhunnypie
that looks a nice coop! I need to sort out a new coop for my bantams that we are hatching. I really want another eglu, but whilst they are very small, some other coop will be ok. Emma.x
Christian
Looks fab Mrs WM. I do second what Egluntine says, some sort of cover over the mesh will give them a little more protection from the elements. Let us know how you get on...! Guest
DH put a perspex roof on ours and also a spare piece of wood across the back of the run, like so... (he's also putting some weld mesh across the front of the run as the holes in the exisitng mesh are too large.) [/img]
Snowy
I was just about to post that it was the same as Poets! Looks great!
Guest
i'll just add, the attached run is too small to use as your only run, you would really need to build another run onto it or have some sort of safe area where they can free range. It wouldn't be fair to leave them in the small run all day, it is FAR too small to be used as a permanent run.
urbanchick
That seller has shockingly bad feedback. Personally I would steer clear.....
Snowy
Just realised as well, it says big enough for 5 - 9 birds. 5 maybe, but no more. What would you say Poet?
Guest
we had no problems with the seller, can't speak for anyone else. You should read thru all the feedback before making a decision. the coop is easily big enough for 7 chickens, I wouldn't have more than that though. There are 3 nest boxes. Our 4 have very spacious sleeping quarters, especially as 3 of them sleep in the nest boxes The run is only really big enough for 2 chickens and even then, I'd still want to attach a bigger run for them. There's no way the run is big enough for 5-9 chickens!
Mrs Webmuppet
Thanks for the advice - I thought the run might be a little on the small side but the OH reckons he could extend it and change the wire to weld mesh & put a little roof on too...he just didn't want to build one from scratch! I may attempt to bid on one over the next few days.
missuscluck
You managed to work on Mr Webmuppet then! Well done. He will soon be chicken mad like the rest of us!
Mrs Webmuppet
I think we have won .Unfortunately he was taken ill this morning so he couldn't come with us (a nasty tummy bug) but we've learnt loads from my colleague. The OH has admitted that bantams do look fun. The wendy house has been cut up and taken to the tip.Little Miss Webmuppet is clearing out her toy box to use as a store for the food etc...........now all we have to do is re-arrange the paving slabs, get a hen house and chooks................ Thank you to everyone for your support & advice
Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . (Hope Mr WM feels better soon though ). Just a tip, if the toybox is plastic don't store feed in it in a shed or garage - you might get mice (or rats ) gnawing through it. A metal bin is a must . Keep us posted . little chickadee
Glad to see that you have changed Mr Webmuppet's mind. You seemed to have given up last time I heard from you Good luck with the coop
Mrs Webmuppet
The toy box is in the conservatory..........should be fairly safe in there and easy for getting to on rainy days!
