The Dogmother
Phil still loves angel delight... that and cheese on toast (his signature dish) are his staple diet if I'm not around to feed him Pink angel delight used to make my lips tingle - must be the red food colouring, it happens with other things too. chickencam
I love Angel Delight made correctly of course My MIL used to serve Vesta curries on a Saturday night and thought she was well posh . I had never seen dehydrated food before and I didn't really like it We went to a really good Vietnamese restaurant quite a bit before we had children, and one night when we were there quite early they were giving their son his tea - Findus crispy pancakes it was all he would eat apparently. The Dogmother
Toast Toppers? - they're never still around? - I loved the mushroom one Banbury is the proud home of the Kraft Jacobs Suchard factory, where they make Kenco coffee etc and some sort of dream topping (UKButton will no doubt correct me on this). In between the whiffs of roasting coffee when the wind is in the north, we can also sometimes smell the topping... it's sweet and vile. I can cope with the coffee smellwhenever we are on the M40, and the wind is in the right direction......... it's the gravy and peas smell you get sometimes
The Dogmother
I know! Part of the process seems to smell like burnt cabbage soup.... after 14 years, I have just got used to it.
Cinnamon
We used to have a huge Brewery in Henley (Its now a Hotel ), & the smell of the hops was amazing The town doesn't really seem the same now it doesn't smell od hops like it used to. There was also a biccy & choccy factory in Reading - can't remember which one - but I do remember my most favourite uncle worked there & his house was full of the stuff

Mrs Frugal
Oh my goodness, I'd forgotten all about Toast Toppers and Crispy Pancakes - the curry one was my favourite . When we first got married, we used to eat nasty greasy burger things called Dalesteaks. I don't know if they still make them but I can still remember the pool of grease they left in the baking tin . When I started nursing, my cooking skills were non-existant so I lived on canteen food and "Whisk and Serve Semolina" which could be made in a jug with the addition of some boiling water . Yummy . Cinnamon
Dalestaeks - I remember those. Hubby & girls like a ready mix semolina thing which I sometimes buy for them. I used the boil in a bag Cod in Butter sauces too - they were actually really nice , & I still sometimes crave one now
Guest
i remember dalesteaks i think, were they the ones with the raised bits to look like barbecue ribs? I loved them on a sandwich we lived on corned beef hash and baked beans when we first bought our house
