motherhen
Sorry have to go, my little girls isn't well (hense I haven't been on here for a wee while) and has just woken up How little is little - I always think there is nothing so heart rending as a poorly 2-5 year old - old enough to know they feel dreadful and not old enough to understand that sobbing will only make them feel worse Hope she's better soon
Guest
I hope your little girl picks up soon, Chicken on a mission. At least your hair feels lovely! Sheila, my hair is really dirty now and I'm off to rinse it with vinegar in a moment. I'm always hopefully that there will be some improvement afterwards! The grease is now down to my neck and this is day 10. The rest (below my neck) feels fine but I am finding it difficult to brush now and it tends to separate. Got to go - son just arrived home and he's meant to be at school!
Guest
Ok, panic over! Son got punched on the nose on his way to school. I will deal with the offender later! Taken son back to school with unbelievable looking hair! Off to rinse it in vinegar now!
The Dogmother
Taken son back to school with unbelievable looking hair! Sounds scary Ginette! Rinsed my hair again last night - I love the freedom of not using products, but it really needs a shampoo now, so I think that I will try for only one shampoo per week and rinsing in between, although this will go out of the window when I am on holiday as I use a protective oil in my hair when I'm in th esun and it needs washing out. Rosie has gone for about a week now and her hair looks ok, I wil shampoo it tonight though as I need to do a bug check.
Linda
Ok, panic over! Son got punched on the nose on his way to school. I will deal with the offender later! Taken son back to school with unbelievable looking hair! Oh dear. Hope your son isn't too shaken up. Not a very good start to the day. Good luck with the vinegar! Guest
Thanks for your concern. Yes it was a horrible start to the morning and he's only just 8, but I think he was OK when we got to school. Today, I did the vinegar rinse first and massaged my scalp too, then left it while I did the rest of the shower, much as I used to do with conditioner. Then I rinsed it off really thoroughly. I'm hoping it will have stripped more of the grease out this time. I feel clean but my hair is too wet to tell yet. I'll report back later before I go out. ( Hope it looks better than it did! )

Guest
Scary! Other child went into school on time with his friend and Andrew's sister! I'll be having words with her too!
Guest
Got to dash, but just wanted to report success with the vinegar rinse - leaving it on for 5 mins -. My hair is now back to its clean but dull state. It isn't quite dry yet but at the moment I'm very pleased!
Happymama
Hi everyone - so, mostly positive but mixed successes too? Oatmeal - please do consider rinsing it off after, won't you, with lukewarm water? And the stuff from the supermarket you eat for brekkie will do. It soaks up oils, you see. If you spill oil on a garment you can soak it up with oatmeal before washing! I must say, keep at it girls! It's a bit like giving up smoking - things get worse and worse but suddenly you come out the other side and you'd never believe life could be so nice! Something I forgot to warn against - those with longer hair to the shoulders and beyond might suffer spots because of the oils. Wash that area across the top of your shoulders very well, with an exfoliation at least once a week (stiff rub with a facecloth with some soap on it will do nicely). Must say, my hair is settled down now and I never get spots, so it's a development thing. So don't worry! COAM, you could always try again (again, like smoking) and the less your hair becomes used to shampoo the better whatever the frequency you use it. One proper shampoo every two weeks won't hurt, but your hair MAY take longer to stabilise, I just don't know. Anyone fancy an objective test of this? It's been three weeks now since my highlights, and my hair no longer looks dry and stripped, and only 3 rinses since! In fact, it's fabulously shiny today! If your hair has got darker, its because the scales of the cuticle of your hair are settled flat, not sticking up and drying out, so reflecting less scattered light. This will settle down as your scalp gets the message and stops over-compensating. Anyone with specific concerns, pm me with them and I'l post a response on here en mass (if appropriate!) as I'm finding keeping tabs on this enormous thread difficult now! I'm worried about missing something!
Happymama
Go on - give it a wash!!! Your temptations only make me more determined to resist them, Grd. My other problem is, I'm dreading meeting any forum members now. I haven't told anyone else yet, I want to see if they notice a difference, and don't want them to be looking deliberately for grease. But you lot will! If I COULD I WOULD! Then you could all smell and fondle my tresses, and inspect my scalp, to prove to you all that hair that's seen shampoo 3 times in 18m, including twice for highlights, can be beautiful and unsticky! Anyone coming anywhere NEAR DARLINGTON in the near future? grd - Poke off, you naughty boy!
Sheilaz
Thanks for all that, Happymama! OK, stayed up too late last night to rinse my hair, so had to do it this morning. Big mistake, for the 2nd time I've been out with disgraceful hair. However, again it has improved as the hours have gone by, so I'm sure an evening rinse will be a good idea, it's a question of changing habits. I should perhaps use the oatmeal, but I'm scared! Linda, did you try it? I feel as if I should leave plenty of time in case I can't get it out again! (Are you still in?) Are there just the 3 of us in? Anyone else? I think I'm here for the long haul....until somebody says something! PS. Hope Andrew is OK, Ginette.
Guest
Good to hear from you Sheila. I too am considering the oatmeal, but waiting until there is no improvement after rinsing. The vinegar really helped this morning and it looks OK tied up or back, but loose it definitely looks greasy! I'm wondering if I will have to do the vinegar twice a week instead of just once. Come on Linda - did you try the oatmeal? Have you been walking round all day with porridge on your head? I think that Sheila, Linda and I are still 'unshampooed'. I also think that Anne (Myles) is doing it too and my husband is on Day 11 today. So if we can include him, that's 5 (not sure that his hair counts though!) My DD3 is going to join in, I think the idea appeals to her as she only washes her hair if I lock her in the bathroom! As it only needs washing once a fortnight, it shouldn't take her scalp long to adjust. Keep going everyone!
The Dogmother
Rosie and I are in too Shelia. She is still un-shampooed after about 10 days (but then she's still little; none of that horrid grown up grease), I haven't shampooed for about 5 days now. I rinsed last night and it felt yuk this morning - wiry and horrid Used the trusty old straighteners and after a day it looks fine and doesnt feel too bad. I was hoping for a reduction in the drynes and itching caused by shampoo, but none yet (have checked for lice by the way ). Excuse the typing - tired! Linda
I'm afraid I fell by the wayside yesterday I felt so unconfident with my hair looking so greasy so decided to wash it before I went to an important appointment. I'm sorry to let you down . I would like to try it again because I know it works from seeing my daughter's hair looking so lovely. Maybe I'll get the supplies of oatmeal in in advance next time. Cate in NZ
Well done all of you, I'm so impressed with your efforts, in fact I feel a bit feeble for giving in Omlet must arrange a get-together in the summer, I want to come and admire everyone's hair It might inspire me to give it another go. That said I used to wash my hair pretty much daily, now I go 2 days, rinse with water on the 3rd & 4th days, wash again on the 5th, which I'd have said was unbelievable a couple of weeks ago, so even I'm making changes and seeing a benefit
Linda
Kate A, I'm thinking of doing that for the time being. Getting involved in this has proved to me that I don't have to shampoo every day. I find that quite liberating in itself. Well done Sheila and Ginette and anyone else who is still persevering with it. You are doing brilliantly. Sheilaz
OK, so I think Anne has been doing this the longest, are you still there Anne? So, poss. 3 of us, plus Rosie at 12 days tomorrow, and Clare at 5 days. I will try the oatmeal But, I don't understand about the vinegar. If it takes out the oil, doesn't it just encourage more oil production? Is it better (in achieving the eventual balance) to try & manage without, is it prolonging the process of stabilisation? I don't know. Mine's certainly not ready for anyone to see!
The Dogmother
Wel, I am going to shampoo tonight. As I said before, I will try to shampoo less and just rinse in between.
Louise
Mine hasn't been done since Tuesday but that is normal when I am not doing any clean room work. The crux will be on Sunday I have the vinegar AND the oatmeal but will I be strong
myles
Yes we're both still in, Peter's finding it easy . He sports the short "frier Tuck" style (sorry hubby, but true) , his hair is'nt greasy it just looks normal and he does usually wash everyday with shampoo, I think the very short hair must help . My hair (day 14 ) looks ok, the oatmeal worked well, I haven't tried vinegar yet but its ready, my shower room looks like the kitchen All the shampoos have been put away and sat in their place a box of oatmeal and a jar of red wine vinegar. If i can remember to ask someone, i'll post a photo, i think my hair looks ok, honest, i haven't told anyone else and i'am not getting strange looks
Guest
Anne, that is really encouraging. I'm very pleased to hear the oatmeal worked well. Day 14 Wow I'm very impressed. Is your hair better than it was a few days ago, or has it just stayed the same? What length is it? (sorry for all the questions ) My husband (also a Peter) has found it easy too. He always shampooed every day and now he just rinses every day. No difference whatsoever! He's on Day 12. Sheila - I know what you mean about the vinegar, but I had to do something. I don't think the effects are brilliant but they have made it OK rather than not OK! The oatmeal must be better because presumably it is neutral and not absorbed by the hair at all. My eldest daughter says I'm a guinea-pig
Sheilaz
My eldest daughter says I'm a guinea-pig Could be worse, the real test for me wil be when Charlot sees mine tomorrow, but I'm going to try not to tell her, yet. Anne, that's so encouraging! I'#ll def do oatmeal before the next rinse. Hair flat but OK Good to see Clare & Louise dipping in & out where poss. too
Happymama
Vinegar rinsing - you can do it again every day if you like, and if you're struggling I really recommend it. You only need a very weak solution, and the psychological effect shouldn't be underestimated, either! Shampoo is viscious stuff. The vinegar is much nicer, trust me, even every day. And the scalp ph should be 5.5 - slightly acidic, as should all of your pelt! Ginette, your daughter is in some way's right, because this experience is different for everyone! I've never 'washed' my 2 yo twin's hair. DS gets washed when he goes to the pool as DH takes him and I have had no effect whatsoever telling / asking / begging / demanding him not to shampoo the boy's hair! I love my hair! THis weekend, I'll get DH to take a nice pic and I'll find out how to post it on here somehow.
Guest
Thank you very much for the tip re vinegar, HappyMama. That is so helpful. I'm really looking forward to the photo! I'm sure that will help others to be interested as well giving those of us trying it an enormous incentive.
