susanbb
I just hope that she is psychologically and physically okay...but I don't know especially when she was found in a divan bed.
superjules
Her stepfather is only 22 (I believe there were allegations made against him) and I understand the father and stepfather did not get on. I've never known a father to be best friends with his children's stepfather! Bit of a conflict of interests.

Tessa the Duchess
I just heard on the news that somebody has been put in protective custody, I think it might have been her father, something very wrong with that family methinks. I wonder if Shannon will be going back to her family or will be put in care until it all gets sorted out. I'm so glad she's been found alive. Tessa. superjules
Sorry! Hope I haven't offended anyone - I've had a glass of wine!! One of those posts that seemed like a good idea at the time. I'll get me coat!
superjules
It's an uncle of her step-father according to the Torygraph website.
Guest
Shannon is in protective custody - so not going home yet. Her father has spoken to the BBC, so it's not him, which I am really relieved to hear. I think there are about 7 children, all with different fathers. Shannon's brother was apparently told by his mother that she would buy him a computer if he stopped running away from home. It's not at all straightforward is it? Tessa the Duchess
Shannon is in protective custody - so not going home yet. . Oh dear. To be honest I've read some not very nice things about this family which I've tried to ignore because a missing child is not a time to be digging up dirt, and anyway I don't believe everything I read in the papers. But, it does look as though things are a bit dodgy. Her poor mum. Tessa.
superjules
Hmmm, the media are great aren't they. While I was heavily preggo with DS there was a woman locally who was expecting siamese twins. The papers got hold of it and it just so happened that someone involved had the same name as OH. The newspaper reporters opened our mail as it was delivered, dissected our rubbish, and generally kept hanging around and hassling us, and this was just a case of mistaken identity in a really not-very-interesting story. They are more annoying and persistant than double glazing salespeople, really not at all scrupulous. In a story like this they'll be interviewing anyone who's ever met this family and some people will say anything to get a mention in the paper or on the telly. The Dogmother
The poor girl, what a terrible start in life she's had. In a way it might be better if she stays in foster care for a bit while they sort out what went on - she needs some care and mothering. Rona
Fantasitic news and I hope that although she is in protectiive custody her mother is able to be with her just to hold her and cuddle her and make her feel safe. Whatever the family circumstances are hopefully she can still feel safe in mum's arms.

Ziggy
One article on bbc news website suggested that both the little girl and the man were found hidden in divan bed compartments, seems maybe she wasn't actually kept there, but was put there and the man hid in a different one to make the police think "Ooops, word censored!"ody was home... It is delightful that she was found and is alive, I do hope she gets the support needed to recover from whatever happened to her and enjoy her life... Rhapsody
Yet again a family member is responsible. When are the media going to wake up and stop panicking the masses about 'stranger danger' when the danger is 95% of the time in the child's home? You dont want to get me started on this one. Krysia
Yes its great she is alive but I fear for what will be uncovered about what happened to her.
Egluntyne
Fantasitic news and I hope that although she is in protectiive custody her mother is able to be with her just to hold her and cuddle her and make her feel safe. Whatever the family circumstances are hopefully she can still feel safe in mum's arms. I too rejoice that the little girl has been found safe. Her mother is only allowed to see her for 10 minutes daily under supervision and is not allowed to touch her, according to last night's news. Remembering that the Madeleine McCann thread, and how things got very heated and it had to be pulled......I cautiously suggest that this hasn't smelled right from the start. If my child went missing at 3.30 I would have reported it to the police a damned sight earlier than they did, and when the mother said a couple of days ago that she knew someone was doing this to get back at her I felt that there was probably more to it than met the eye. However , I hope that as a result of this the poor child's life will be altered for the better and that the ordeal can be overcome. What a world we live in. chickenlass
God bless Shannon....I hope and pray she is able to put this ordeal behind her quickly but I have a horrible feeling it is only the beginning of her journey through this ...[by that I mean the investigation and questioning etc]
