little cluckers
We are desperate for a new sofa and we have always spent a max of £300 on a sofa, however they only seem to last about 2 years as there are six of us so they get a lot of use/abuse. So this time I've been tempted to buy a chesterfield as lots of people have said how well they last, however these people seem to be either single or just have one child- so my questions are; does anyone with a larger family have experience of a chesterfield, and if so has it lasted as well? I'm also looking at it from a green angle as we could get through a lot of £300 sofas in 20 years!
Cinnamon
We used to have one,but I didn't like the look of it - all those buttons & stuff. Not to my taste at all. So about 5 years ago we got a lovely new brown leather 2 seater sofa,3 seater sofa & chair from John Lewis, & it has been fab. I think the range is called Cordoba. The leather is tough, comfy & looks great. Last year the springs went in my sofa & they swapped the whole lot for us, as a new one wouldn't have colour matched our old stuff - you don't get better service than that
Lesley
Chesterfields have quite a low back don't they? - I wouldn't have thought they were too comfortable for lounging around on? I would think John Lewis, as Sarah says, as their quality on most things seems to be very good, as does their customer service.
little chickadee
I have a Chesterfield (an old family one) and I find it really supportive of my back and great to lounge around on. We inherited it and it needs recovering and re-springing, but we think we will wait a few years for this and just have a nice big throw over it. Ours hasn't got buttons, but is just upholstered in Green (knackered) velvet. Love it
chelsea
our first sofa in our 1st home was a pair of scarlett red chesterfields (second hand). They were very nice, I must admit the back was low but we found them lovely and long - so great to lie out on. I was sad to see them go actually! sparkleeeeee
we have two three seaters and a single chair. we got them for £500 inc commission from the local auctions about 3.5 years ago and they were like new, we had been looking at them in the local leather shop and they were £1250 each for a three seater. they are fantastic and we have two toddlers jumping on them regularly. we often have childrens parties etc and they are great to clean. my parents have a suite as well and its 17 years old and still going strong and they have loads of dogs. the seats are really long so great to lay on and you dont get saggy backs etc. they do have a low back but thats not been a problem for us. the only thing with them is that you need to make sure you use them equally as one of ours is sat in alot and is now a lighter shade than the others (because they go a lighter shade with age). i would recommend them to anyone with children as they are fantastic and so easy to clean, they have seen quite alot of vomit over the years. the cusions have been used to make many dens and spacehips over the last few years and sometimes i wish i could glue the cusions on the seats so i dont have to keep picking them up. Egluntyne
We had a Chesterfield ages ago. The back was too low and it was not a bit comfortable. We got rid.
