mayflower
Hi everyone, Well, what an afternoon! We set off to collect our three hens and returned home with 5!!! It was a three and half round trip in torrential rain, and when we arrived light was already fading, sooo I have'nt really seen them properly. Four of the hens have been named after members of my family who emigrated to Canada to start a new life. So I thought that was fitting for ex bats hens. The fifth hen was the tiniest out of 300 rescued today and she has no feathers on her head or breast and weighs nothing. So just because I love the name, I have called her Lucy. Four of them seemed pretty docile when we lifted them from the box and put them in the cube. The fifth one though, who I will call Annie is really feisty! Fighting us all the way and a very loud cluck. My Aunt was feisty(without the cluck) so I shall be reminded of her. I managed to give them a quick dusting of mite powder before putting them to bed, so the conservatory smells rather. Ca'nt wait till the morning to actually see who I have collected. urbanchick
Hi, I was there at 3.15 - what a journey though, it took me over an hour in awful rain. Did you see the cute goats? I will be up at 6am tomorrow to let them out and probably won't sleep as I can't wait to have a really good look at them!

mayflower
Oh Hi Urbanchick, no, missed the goats. Well, been up like you since a loooong time. Lucy bare breast ventured out first and started to feed very hungry, then followed by Suki no tail. The other three will not venture out yet. Anyway, just now either Alice or May laid an egg! weighing in at three ounces. I've never collected a fresh egg before and I'm surprised how warm...bordering on hot it is! Well back to hen watching! mayflower
Well, spent a lovely day henwatching and hentalking. Lucy the tiny one who, looks as if someone has taken a coffee break in between plucking is adorable. She has been eating all day and very friendly. All in all it looks as if they have enjoyed themselves....very quickly learnt how to get the water from the super glug and feeding well. 3 eggs today!! 2 in the nest box in the morning and one in the run late afternoon. I've fallen in love with all of them big time. So glad we've got them.

She also looks so much bigger now she has all her feathers. Be sure to take lots of pics so you can look at them in 6 weeks time and see how far she's come. If you do a search on here you might find the before/after pics of my little Bimble. Shirl
