Guest
eating greens; grass, cabbage, spinach makes the yolks yellower. Don't know about marigold seeds though.
ali-s
On Countryfile the family who are getting chickens were told that cooked carrot makes the egg yolks more orangey. My chickens love garated raw carrot so I am going to try them with cooked carrot to see if it makes a difference to the egg yolks.
Blackrocksrock
I now cook all the peelings and blitz them and add some breadcrumbs or pasta - god - cooking for the chickens! - thought I would never do this!!
Christian
I grow perpetual spinach in the garden (not especially for the hens ) as it grows all year round. They get a handful hung up in the run a few times a week and they produce lovely orange yolks
Chicken Licken
I'm the same as you Christian, the girls love the perpetual spinach and swiss chard and the eggs have lovely yellow yolks
Egluntyne
I'm not sure that it would be the seeds...more likely the petals. Some chicken foods contain Marigold to promote golden yolks.
