Flubevet or Diatom

Recommended Posts

 Hi there,

Is Diatom instead of Flubevet or as well as? Sorry - I've read so much that now I actually have my girls I can't seem to take anything in! Also can anyone recommend a pressure washer?

I gave my girls porridge tonight with raisins in as I was reading about someone else who gives it to her girls (in the treats section) and they love it. Mine just took one peck and then walked away!!

I use Flubenvet as a wormer Sophie every 4 months.

I use Diatom in the dustbath as a precaution against lice, and in the nestbox and on the ends of the roosting bars as a precaution against red mite.

Diatom can be used as a preventative measure against worms by adding it to the chickens feed. Not sure of its effectiveness as I use Flubenvet.

The pressure washer seems a bit extreme for worms :wink:

The gist from the forum seems to be diatom is good for prevention, but not treatment of lice. People don't tend to think it is good enough as a wormer on its own.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine won't eat porridge either. Sometimes they won't eat things unless they are in tiny little pieces that can be pecked up easily.

They won't eat the marmite on toast, or food mixed with live yoghurt suggested by omlet either.

They can be fussy eaters

 Have visions of forcing chickens beaks open to blast away worms with pressure washers!

Thank you both - I think I'll get both then to be on the safe side. Chocchick - mine won't eat marmite on toast either and my neighbour brought round a box of oatflakes with fruit pieces especially for them and they immediately turned their beaks up and walked away in disgust - I was sooooo embarrassed!

I do exactly the same :D

Worm with flubenvet every 3/4 months.. diatom in cube, nest box and poo trays ( plastic roosting bars)

Also diatom in dust bath and a small amount in pellets...
