Guest
Well I didn't get it - the third candidate was head of ICT & Maths at the local sink school (been teaching 5 years and stayed there so they promoted her every year - normally everyone leaves after a couple of terms!). I did know her too and I think she would be as good for the job as I would, not loads better (OK so now I sound big headed!). They were impressed with her team management skills apparantly (interesting really as she hasn't managed a team that have actually stayed in post for very long). The third candidate CHEWED GUM!!!!!! I would not have been happy to see her get the job - strange thing to do at an interview but I noticed she was doing it first thing when we were all having a chat with the head. I got some good feedback from the head about which were my weaker areas - and some poor feedback that I should ask my current head to put me on a "leading from the middle" course next year. There is NO WAY I'm staying where I am for another year - it makes me too unhappy. Also if I did stay she would be reluctant to put me on that course as I'd be busily getting my AST status (I was recruited as an aspiring AST & promised AST status in my second year, mind you she also promised to get my threshold sorted and she didn't ) Anyway - I also heard somone from my old school put in an application for somewhere else today so there could even be a job coming up there (although they are about to have 1 teacher too many - but the person leaving has responsibilty that others aren't ready to take). In an ideal world I'd go back there like a shot!

Olly
Sorry to hear that but I agree with the others - it wasn't meant to be, and there will be something better around the corner. Maybe the job back at your old school, and you'll be glad you didn't get the other one after all then.
Guest
Thank you all - I don't feel too bad about it really. ANH - I've always wanted to go to Edinburgh Zoo and see the penguin parade - they have the largest penguin breeding programme in the world. One of my closest freinds lives in Dundee now and is having a spare room built....

Rona
Shame about the job today but the experience and work you did in preparing for it is bound to come in useful when you go for the perfect job that is waiting for you.
Goosey Lucy
I am also a firm believer in fate. It obviously wasn't meant to be so refocus your energy on the next opportunity that presents itself. (I'm still struggling with the image of a candidate chewing gum!!)
Ain't Nobody Here
Just for you, Pengy, and anybody else who's not been to Edinburgh Zoo: (The penguins come out of their enclosure voluntarily - they really do seem to enjoy it )
MedusA
What a fabulous video, ANH! Sorry you didn't get the job, Pengy. Keep your chin up. There will be other opportunities. The old adage "when one door closes, another opens" springs to mind. Are you in contact with your old school re the possibility of returning there, then?
