dogs and chickens Posted March 26, 2008 Share Posted March 26, 2008 I'm so glad I am not alone on this none hand washing thing - I tryed it once and that was enough, like some others I buy most stuff second hand, then do not worry if it shrinks . Although I tend to find I forget to reset the machine, it sticks itself on at 60 and everything is spoiled ! I do bake, my hubby has a cake and home made treats for his lunch each week (lucky chap) . I'm really ashamed to ask this but I don't even know what crocs are? . I can sew but I don't have the time, or I would rather be doing something else ! chickencam Posted March 27, 2008 Share Posted March 27, 2008 When we replaced our washing machine 5 years ago we bought a Miele at the recommendation of the engineer who condemed our old machine. I chose it because it has handwash programmes and it is supposed to last for 15-20 years, 5 years in no problems apart from a smell which was solved by going back to big box powder at the recommendation of an Omlet thread on smelly machines I also buy a lot of second hand stuff and wash everything in the machine and even then the delicates tend to lurk at the bottom of the basket for some time, the table runner from Christmas is still there The only thing that I have ever hand washed on a regular basis was a beautiful dusky pink fine wool jumper which my mum made for YD when she was a baby, just the time when you don't want to hand wash, but it was lovely and I knew the work that had gone into it. I do however bake cakes and occasionaly knit, but I am not girlie either, I like to know how to do most things the main thing beyond me at the moment is wiring up computers and tv's dvd players etc to each other Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'll make cake and even tidy up and dust, BUT only when it really needs doing! I'm not really into make up or straightening my hair, unless I really can be bothered. Hand me chickens anyday! That's what I thought, until I tried them on, then I was hooked . Crocs are very light, hygenic, non slip and warm too. They are designed to be used for beach/watersports and they float too. I have just converted a friend and she is now going abroad with only Crocs footwear as it keeps the weight of the luggage down, as they literally weigh just grams. Milly Posted March 29, 2008 Share Posted March 29, 2008 To get back to dry clean only - I seem to remember reading that (apart from the fact that some manufacturers slap it on as a precaution even if it's not really essential) is that sometimes mixed fabrics don't wash very well as the different fabrics can shrink at different rates. So, although they might only shrink very slightly, you could end up with a slightly crumpled look. What I usually do is hand wash cautiously first time, then bung it in the washing machine with everything else if nothing goes wrong.
