andrewandcarly
Ive just been out again to our local breeder and picked up another 2 gingernut rangers. I have 2 eglus now, a home made pen so i think that will be it.............for now! they are mabel and margaret. will post some pictures when i have some. just out of interest, do those who give them porridge use water or milk? ive tried them on porridge with water and they dont really bother with it. give them some boiled rice and its a different matter, they gobble it all up! cluckbok
Hi ya, We give ours with warm kettle water. I heard not to use milk as not good for them, they shouldn't really have dairy products. I used the porridge tonight to plant the Verm-X in and they scoffed it down. I'm gonna try weetabix with water one day too.
Christian
Congratulations on the new hens! I make up my porridge by adding warm water to layers mash/pellets and a scoop of porridge oats, mixed up with chopped courgette and sweetcorn. Sarah B
I think the porridge should be made with water, I'm not sure they should have much dairy as it's fatty. Mine are not that keen on it either Glad you have new chooks and 2 Eglus! I'd love to see the set up when you can post some pics
Mirkwood
urm i thought they could have probiotic yogurt please if not i intend to buy some tomorrow or is it only if they have a bad crop??????????????
andrewandcarly
ive added layers mash, pellets and porridge with water. they tend to have a peck at it then leave it. will try weetabix instead soon. i did remember reading somewhere not to give dairy products. this is our set up at the moment. there is room for expansion but i am told 6 is enough now! superjules
Ooh, matching eglus - get you! 6 is good but 8 is better!
Egluntyne
Probiotic yoghurt is good for their digestion, and is not just for sour crop. Given fairly frequently, it can make a small contribution towards preventing it.....and they love it!
