(still not getting along with the big girls) And the girls. . .almost a year old. I did pretty good raising these two. You all have been an excellent place to come for advice as I raised the girls from day old chicks last spring. . . I was out raking and planting flowers, etc today (always with the girls). . .and a woman drove by, backed up and called me over. She said, I've always wanted chickens!! Where did you get them? I briefly explained my process, but then asked her to wait. . .I gave her 4 eggs in the OMLET carton and said she could get lots of good info there. (since it has the website listed there) She was thrilled for the information and the free eggs. I have not regretted my decision to get chickens at all. Before getting them I was so worried about how the dogs would deal with them, the neighbors, etc. . .if anything they have added a new interest in the neighborhood that everyone loves. Egluntyne
Fab pics John. Edith has a wonderful hairstyle. It's a pity that they don't all get on. Have you seen **this** article by Lesley-Jean.....it might give you a few ideas about integrating them.

jsbates65
Edith is a silkie. i was interested in getting one because i heard they were extremely friendly and docile and were the "lap dog" of the chicken world. All was totally correct. Clarisse has never loved sitting for too long, but my Rosemary will sit for quite awhile as long as I rub under her wings. . .she sort of closes her eyes and enjoys the moment, but before too long they are off chasing a bug or something. Edith on the other had will be content for hours just sitting and preening on my lap. She'll watch tv with me, weed the flower beds with me. . .just be right there. She's my "red neck parrot" and is the house with me a lot.
Flo
What are silkies like to look after? My OH really wants one, but they look very fluffy, do they get very dirty? And how does she get along with your other girls? I have 1 miss pepperpot and 1 ginger nut. Not sure about introducing a new one yet though, I work long hours so can't be around to supervise if there are problems. I am happy to take holiday to get them introduced but it still worries me
jsbates65
Edith does have feathered feet, so I'm thinking living like my other girls she would be more of a hassle to deal with. However, at this point, she is not getting along with the other girls, and I keep her in a seperate living area where she doesn't get too dirty. I let her free range when I can watch and she doesn't get into muddy areas. At this point she is so much smaller than my other two. . .and she looks more delicate, so I do baby her a bit. . .and haven't allowed her to be henpecked. (She's probably tougher than she looks!) When she is out, the girls ignore her most of the time. . and then move in and go at her. I probably need to allow her to be henpecked a bit if I ever want them to co-exist, but I just can't stand it yet. Edith's cage is out where the girls can see her, and they don't try to get her through the cage. . .so maybe there is still hope! But I'm not the person to ask about introducing a new girl to your existing. From what I read on silkies though, overall they tend to be pretty hardy birds and can live in conditions like most other chickens. The feathered feet will be a bit more of a hassle in keeping them clean I would expect if they were free ranging full time.
