Healthy Eating Chat Part 1

hello all

 

thought I would pop my head back in here. Well done everybody on their losses :D

I have still been following slimming world and today had a rather good class. I suddenly lost 3.5lb this week, which meant I dropped down to under another 'number'. I nipped past the losing 10% of my body weight target and I was slimmer of the week! I'm over the moon and it has helped me to make sure I stay focused.

 

It means I have lost 1 stone 6 pounds since I started in September and have lost just shy of 2.5 stone since January last year.

 

Sorry to crow :oops: , but it has been a long time coming and I now weigh less than when I got married just over 4 years ago :D

Ooooo well done!

I'm into my first week of WW - doing it alone, no meetings. My weigh in night is Sunday. I popped on the scales yesterday though, to see if I was 'on the move' & I'm happy so far.

I do think I'll turn into a satsuma though - love them! :lol:

My WW toffee bars should come today. They will help me when I'm out shopping at the weekend!

Hubby is cooking some WW dish called Hungarian beef tonight - it looks gorgeous! Bless him. I did spicy meatballs last night & they were very nice.

 

Saturday will be bad, because we are at a buffet in the evening. I shall be very careful!

I am delighted to report I am 4.5 lb down this week. Fab news as tomorrow I am meeting up with online mates from another website, we are all going to a booksigning in London (I'm sure you can guess!). They haven't seen me since I was at my heaviest in August- can't wait!!! :D

Well done Rhapsody :dance: Have a great time meeting up - I hope they recognise you!!

 

I was cutting bread to make a sandwich yesterday - and forgot it was for me for a sandwich - I cut it as if it was for Carl's toast :roll: ...............so I just ate one slice - and had it as an open sandwich! I'd completely forgotten the trick about having open sandwiches!

 

I also made Microwave Steamed Sponges last night as I had Lauren and Jake - I'll post the recipe separately. A 2oz mix makes 4 puddings.

 

I had my regular Remedial Sports Massage yesterday - haven't seen the physio for 6 weeks (as usual) and she noticed my weight loss :D She sees more of my body than anyone else (apart from Carl - and he doesn't notice things :roll: ) so it was good to hear. She was really pleased as she's seen me put all the weight on since hurting my knee 6 years ago - even my ankles are thinner!

That's fab Rhapsody, I bet you'll look the dog's doodaaas for the outing; wish we could see their faces.

 

Lesley - I noticed the weight loss on Saturday - I could really see it around your middle. Perhaps Carl would notice if you had black fur and wore Jazz's lead around your neck :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

 

Rhapsody; having been sporty, do you find that you really notice the slowing down when you carry extra weight? I have never been 'overweight' per se, but with training regularly, I really can tell if I've had a splurge :roll: I don't give a fig how it looks, just that I feel unfit and uncomfortable above my fighting weight. My boss is normally very fit, but he put on a bit a few months ago; he lost it all and more by following the south beach diet, which is really just low/no carbs and lots of healthy food. Hard in this dull weather when you just want to overload ont he confort food.

:lol: I got a lot of double takes today, I went in skinny jeans and long leather boots- never thought I'd wear anything like that again (and I met a certain pair of celebrity drinking buddies, which was loverly) and oh the joy of wearing clothes you like rather than choosing something that doesn't add bulk.

As for feeling the extra weight Clare, I have noticed having shed 2.5 stone I can spring up the hills here in a much more sprightly fashion, rather than slogging up like an old tractor!

Well done everyone! :dance: Well, I shed 3.5 lb this week and I've just realised that I'm no longer morbidly obese.....just obese. My bmi has dropped from 52.7 :oops: to 37. My aim is to get that number under 25.

I'm the only person left in my original weight loss group. Everyone else has given up! So I'm being moved to join a new group of women, hopefully they'll be as much fun as my original group.

That confirms what I had been thinking, I need to lose about a stone to be in the right range. Most of the Christmas goodies have now gone, so I suppose here goes :roll:

 

Most of my weight is around my middle which is a bad place for it to be, so excercise is probably the key to it along with less wine I should think. Roll on good weather for the allotment :D

I do find it odd the relationship between body weight and shape. I come from a line of women with slim figures but rounded stomachs. I wear size 12 clothes, which are a bit tight at the moment, but still fit but I am about a stone overweight and according to the BMI chart my BMI is about 27 which puts me overweight.

 

I know that I am a few pounds heavier than I was before Christmas, but hopefully that will change as the weather improves because I tend to be inactive over the winter whereas in the summer I am out and about in the garden etc.

 

Those few pounds do make the difference I don't need to be the whole stone lighter to feel better in myself. I will see how far I get :D

I'm only using my bmi as my goal as I'm never been in the 'normal' range of weight, ever. I'm sure if I get between 25-30 bmi and I feel comfortable then I'll leave it at that. Then again I might get to 25 and decide I'd feel better with a few more pounds off.

I'm fairly sure I'll probably be the first. I've got a really large frame with wide hips and shoulders and massive feet. So I think I've always weighed much more than everyone thinks I am.

Only time will tell. It does interest me how each person is so different at the same height and weight. I've been looking at people a lot. I have to weight and measure people for my job and I often think, " wow you look great" and then realise the person weighs 2 stone more than my current goal. Makes me feel confident about what I'm looking forward to.

Both my husband and son are stocky people. My DS looked square at one point when he was a toddler, he has got big hands and broad feet. When we took him for his first shoes the assistant suggested that the shoe boxes might fit him better :lol:

 

My FIL has got huge wide hands, we think he must have been a mole in a previous life :lol:

:lol: Rosie is the same - she has her dad's build and square feet, people think that she looks fat but she's just solid, bless her. She swims several times a week for a local club and is pretty active too, so not at all unhealthy.

 

The critical thing with children is educating them about healthy eating and 'empty calories', as someone said earlier in the thread it's all about the nutritional value of your food rather than just calorie counting.

I have now lost half a stone since the start of the year and am feeling very proud of myself. Fell down a little last night as we were in Edinburgh, ended up in a wonderful pub where I had two of those mini bottles of Lanson champagne and a huge tray of seafood! However no gain so I think that the Seafood and Champagne diet could be the next great diet discovery!! :D:D
