I know people sometimes post when they are pressed for time, but we all lead busy lives and I haven't always got time to interpret what I'm reading. I don't think I have ever come across one - and I am no texting expert. surely text speak is no different to other abbreviations commonly accepted on here - LOL, DH, OH, etc... Mrs Frugal Posted April 24, 2008 Author Share Posted April 24, 2008 Phil, it's not necessarily the difficulty in understanding these posts, although the first time I saw "grt" and "plz", I had no idea what they meant. If you read through this topic, the overwhelming general feeling towards text speak on a forum is of annoyance because it's lazy to miss out letters in short, easily spelled words. I must admit that it gives me a headache too. And, the only one entitled to use the Queen's English on here is Christian ! I am another geek who always uses full punctuation and spelling in my text messages but that's a personal thing - and "Ooops, word censored!"ody is complaining about the odd typo, mis-spelling or idiosyncracy on here - it's the perpetual use of 'text speak', when there's a full keyboard to use! I agree also about the capital letters - it makes it very hard to read. I don't think this is a case of 'too many rules', it just makes the forum more pleasant to read. I once had an email from somebody who didn't use any capital letters or punctuation so you couldn't tell where one sentence ended and another started - I gave up in the end and deleted it. I get very cross when I watch television and they annotate somebody's name or a place with no capital letter. I saw Stephen Fry on something once and he described people like me/us as Grammar Bullies. I thought that was quite funny!! My friend had a mother's day card and it said something like "of all the mum's in the world....." - I couldn't believe it.....gggrrrr End of rant.
