An afternoon in... (+pic)

Recommended Posts

....the garden. Helping my mum weed and set out the new pansies and spreading out the compost, and cutting back the sticky weed, and cutting back the tulips that have flowered this year.

Not the noraml teenagers weekend day! But I really enjoy it, theres something quite satisfying about pulling weeds up. But alas my arms are covered in little red scratches were the plants have had there revenge.

My family's garden is my dream garden for when I get my own house. Its really long, with a pond, plenty of grass, a apple tree, a pear tree, lovely gravveled bit at the bottom and a bergola.

Been dropping subtle hints about how loevly it would all look with chickens, but may have to wait till I have my own house!

Good for you :D . It's lovely to hear about happy young gardeners :D . I'm glad you've enjoyed your afternoon in the garden. It's very rewarding clearing up and putting in new plants. I love it. My 14 year old is keen on gardening just like you and it's much more fun than being stuck in front of a DVD or games console when the weather's good, isn't it :D .

Defiantly! Especially when the weather is nice, one border of the garden is "Hayley's Garden" and its my job to weed, dead-head and put in new plants. Of course nearly all the plants are blue (my fav colour) but some lovely pink and purple ones come up towards late summer.

My mum and dad didn't think thier 17 daughter would be keen on gardening but I am!

That's fab :D !! It's lovely to have your own area to look after where the decisions on planting are your own. We've given Ollie a small flower bed of his own too which he keeps weeded and planted nicely (looks better than the rest of the garden most of the time  ). I love blue flowers too  . It's great that you're learning all these gardening skills for when you get your own garden. It'll be beautiful when you do :D .

 I wish I'd appreciated it more when I was younger, I only got into gardening later and I could have learned so much from my parents.

Keep on pushing about the chickens ... they may come round to the idea. Stress how good they are at eating snails, and how useful the chicken manure is as fertiliser!

Heres a pic of our garden, my patch is just to the right, out of view. do you think it would be ok to keep chickens in? I could get them to take the trampoline down, me and my sister hadrly ever use it. The area in which we live is very mixed, its quite rough at the back of us (see the houses at the bottom of the garden?) but it get nicer and a lot more footballers wivesish the further outwards you go. Sorry about the size of the pic. The pond is just behind the trampoline and the bergola is right above where I stood to take the pic.

Wow, what a lovely garden! It looks absolutely ideal for chickens, to me! Why not see if there's a Hen Party anywhere near you, if you could persuade your mum or dad to go along and see an Eglu (or a Cube) for real, they might be more into it.

Seriously, your garden is plenty big enough for an Eglu/Cube, you could even tuck it out of sight partly behind some bushes.

I've just delivered a second-hand Eglu that I sold, to a lady living in a terraced house in Bermondsey, South London - her garden is about 1/10 of the size of yours, and she's going to have chickens, so I don't see why you shouldn't have some too.

What a lovely garden :D

if you would like an eglu visit you are more than welcome to come here, poachedegg came before she got her chooks to reassure herself that she could keep hens in her garden.

My garden isn't as lovely as yours, or as big. My hens are kept down the botton, with the eglu run & some omlet netting for when they play out.

Yesterday I was busy in our garden too! I was cleaning and scrubbing the eglu out, turning the compost heaps and replacing the woodchips in the eglu run. Very satisfying, especially as the weather has been was so nice. I even cleaned off all the tools and oiled them once I'd finished.

Seriously our fork and spade set is the best-it was a wedding present for my parents from my Mum's uncle Geoff, they've nearly been married for 30 years. :D

I also had a big croc washing session in the drive too, as mine were distinctly muddy and Mum's weren't clean either. I'll leave you to guess how many pairs we both have!
