Keanie Bean
I've just been scouring my local freecycle and someone is asking for an eglu, preferably with chickens, and they would be grateful for a rablu for their rabbits aswell. I think they will be lucky, I dont know many who would part with an eglu for nothing as they sell for hundreds on ebay. I dont agree with asking for animals on freecycle I have to say, but each to thier own! Sarah.x
little chickadee
Good luck to them with the eglu I did read on here that someone had thrown one in the tip because it was dirty though
Paola
Somebody might be crazy enough to hand one over I always say, if you don't ask, you don't get
Keanie Bean
Good luck to them with the eglu I did read on here that someone had thrown one in the tip because it was dirty though How wasteful is that?! I just personally dont agree with someone asking for animals for free, it kind of implies they dont have enough money to buy one in the first place, and then if this is the case then surely they dont have enough money to look after them properly either, but as you say if you dont ask.... The Dogmother
You'll be lucky Hon!!! Someone posted once on our freecyle for an eglu - I emailed her saying that she probably wouldn't get one, but to let me know if she wanted to come roudn to see mine. Never heard back
Keanie Bean
You'll be lucky Hon!!! It wasnt me Claret , I saved long and hard for mine. I dont think I'd have the nerve to ask for something so valuable and certainly not something alive. The last thing I asked for on Freecycle was holy or wholy (holes - I cant spell) jumpers to make Daniels some nappy covers with. I dont think they are valuable to anyone , as jumpers anyway. Yorkshire Pudding
I've given lots away, but never received when I post a 'wanted'. I haven't given up hope - we're desperate for a hutch for our guinea pigs at the moment - but I do think some people ask the impossible. Chicken poo is very popular here too! missuscluck
Im really not convinced about freecycle. I know some of you have had success but ours seems to be full of people asking for the earth and people trying to get rid of **** to save a trip to the tip. Cate in NZ
Im really not convinced about freecycle. I know some of you have had success but ours seems to be full of people asking for the earth and people trying to get rid of **** to save a trip to the tip. I've given up on our Freecycle for much the same reasons. And when I advertised stuff seemingly I was expected to deliver it too
Ziggy
I've used gumtree to give things away... I've looked at freecycle too, but as other people here, I've found that there is very little offered and what is posted as 'wanted' can really be cheeky and it irritates me... I keep telling myself I shouldn't mind, as sometimes I've had good but no longer needed things lying around the house, and I've been happy to give them away rather than sell them, so maybe those posts are useful for that, but still, there is something in the tone of the 'wanted' posts that often just makes me think 'oh please!!!' Gumtree is used for many things, most people sell things on there, but there is a freebie section, and I've given away shelves and bookshelves on there for free and the people who came to collect them were nice, friendly, polite and grateful to get them, while I was grateful to get the space without having to throw the stuff away or take it to any recycling place... there was one young and naive french girl who was 'desperate for shelves' though, and came to the house on a bus, then found she couldn't carry the stuff on the bus obviously (don't know what she was thinking!!!), so as she didn't live too far I offered to take it to her in my car the next day, then she decided she didn't want them cause the owner of her flat offered to get some for her!! But apart from that small waste of time, I've been happy with gumtree and would post on there again to give things away. There are some annoying posts on there too (I keep reading the pets section, to find people trying to make a living from selling kittens at such crazy prices... why isn't there a law in the UK about who can sell living creatures and at what prices?? I'm sure some of those people come close to selling stray kittens as a career!!)
Rhapsody
Another Dissatisfied With Freecycle here......... when I put my compost on there last year folk wouldnt come and collect it unless they lived next door to me! Some people are dreaming with their requests surely! I'm thinking of putting this in the 'Wanted' section- "Wanted, urgent- E-Type Jaguar Series1 4.2 Roadster in Black (or possibly BRG) must have been given refit by Eagle of Sussex, to include performance race tyres and a Bose sound system." The Dogmother
Can I come down and go for a ride in it Rhapsody? E-Types are my dream car... British Racing Green of course. When I was little one of my Dad's friends had one and took me for a spin in it.. I've been hooked since then. I find that sometimes Freecycle is wonderful and others it's pure rubbish. I have met some wonderful people and made friends through it, and been really hacked off by other peoples' attitudes.
Louise
I gave up ages ago on freecycle for these reasons the stuff always seemed to be grabbed by the same people and when folk started asking for cars and garden swings I thought nah this isn't for me
