Should I be power washing my eglu?

Recommended Posts

I don't own a power washer so just brush my eglu out with a dustpan type brush then wipe it over with hot soapy water.

There are quite a few nooks and crannies that the shredded paper seems to get wedged into. Is it OK to leave these uncleaned? Redmite lives on wood so I'm assuming I won't get them in the actual eglu :? .

I might consider getting a power washer but won't unless the powers that be (you lot  ) deem it unwise to leave my nooks and crannies grubby :wink: .

we used to do the soap and scrub manual method and then blast with a normal hosepipe.

We got a power washer just after Christmas and we find that it is much quicker and more effective at getting off grime without any effort. Hubby can do the cube completely in 5-10mins.

I think power washers are worth their money as you can pick them up quite cheap these days and also come in handy for power washing patios/garden stuff etc. :D

I have a fancy metal gun thing on my hosepipe which allows a wide range of spray patterns. One of these is a fairly powerful jet. I used this the first time I cleaned the Cube, as I couldn't be bothered to get the pressure washer out of the depths of the shed. (I bought the pressure washer to pressure wash our driveway, then my DH told me you can't use it on th edruive as it dislodges all the sand in the joints).

the second time, I did get the pressure washer out (it was a nice day, I like playin gwith water, the damn thing had cost me money and I hadn't used it; I couldn't believe how much better the pressure washer was.

It now lives at the front of the shed, ready to go at a moments notice.

I have a PW, & have used it twice on my eglu.

It was only £10 from B&Q, but I suppose you get what you pay for- it only does a thin jet of water, so to clean the eglu door or casing takes ages, as it only does a thin line at a time. It feels a bit like when you have an etch-a-sketch & you want to fill the whole screen in

Power washers are worth their weight in gold around the house, car, garden and (as I am sure to learn in a months time) around the chicken house. We just got a new, lighter-weight, hand held model that I am less intimidated by than the soon-to-be-sold monster version my husband has had for years. The newer, lighter weight ones are almost as powerful (as powerful as you need them to be) without taking up all that space in the shed.

I have a pressure washer, but by time i get it out of shed, connect hose, plug in extension lead etc-i could have done it by hand using bucket of soapy water and watering can.

One big advantage though is the roosting bars-they come up like new.

I have a power washer it was about £30 from Argos. I bought it to clean decking. It lives in the cellar and is a real faff to get out and set up, so I use it on the Eglu about once every 2 months. Normally I use a regular hose which does have quite a powerful setting. The PW is amazing the way it cleans the Eglu, comes up like new :D

Well, I just used our new hand-held, small-sized power washer to wash our cars. Really powerful, so no worries that you have to have a monster sized machine to do a good water-blasting job, be it on a cube, eglu or anything else. The one we have is the size of a large handbag and still packs a whollop. And, as I said above, when space is at a premium, it's good to know my shed can handle it.

What is this handheld one you have got? Are you allowed to put the name of it on the forum? I'm fairly new here, just got our eglu and girls on Wednesday. Have been looking at pressure washers but can only see big ones in argos.

Thanks

Hi, here's the link to the Karcher K2.01that we got from Amazon.co.uk

My husband says the only problem he has with it is that the power cable could be longer (we don't have an outdoor power supply and must run it through the window with an extension lead).

that's great thanks. the main thing that has put me off them is the space factor. OH has now had a blue fit when he's seen the size of patio that has just been buried by bark and to tell him he'd have to find space for a big pressure washer in "his" garage might have resulted in Chicken for sunday dinner!!! I keep telling he'll love the eggs when they start coming!

I just use a hosepipe, I have never had a power washer so I don't know what I'm missing! I don't have decking, and I don't think I'd use it for anything else.

I did use my steam cleaner on the old Eglu before I sold it, and it came up a treat!

They can, as we found out to our cost. However now we're just more vigilant, and got some proper anti-red mite cleaning liquid: you don't need a power-washer! The most important thing we found was wearing glasses
