TAJ
When I first got my chickens Nutmeg was really funny on a couple of occaisions jumping up from a standing position to get eye level with Bella. She has now taken to eating flies and mosquitoes in the evening and has gone back to this - it is so funny she walks around the garden and then jumps up and down on the same spot. Probably funnier to see than to describe, but she's been keeping me entertained anyway. Tracy
Snowy
I love watching them chase a fly around the garden, jumping and snapping at it Must get the camera set on video for that one
TAJ
Snowy - I was just thinking of you (the owl connection) - I just put 'Omlet' into an e-mail and the spell checker wanted to change it to Owlet! Tracy

Chickvic
I haven't seen mine jumping up and down, but Opal does do a good run after the flies which is always funny to see
Laura & CTB
Prada has just discovered if she jumps that she can pull off bits of my hanging plant - well that'll keep her amused all summer then
surferdog
Hyacinth jumps to catch flies and strip leaves she can't reach. Very funny as she's a rather large lady (built like her namesake)
*mummy_hen*
Thelma jumps when i come out with the treat bowl..... They are so funny! Chickens are certainly a good source of entertainment - i don't think we've switched the tv on more than twice since we've had them!! beach chick
mine jump for the honeysuckle berries - they look like Harrier jumpjets!!
Ain't Nobody Here
I deliberately hang their seed bell at the higest point of the run so we can watch them jumping for it .
Abbey Road Girl
They are the chicken equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters. I untangle bindweed for them so they can reach it, but they are much more interested in jumping higher and higher after the leaves they have not already munched to bits. cluckbok
I wish ours would eat the flies!! I hate the things. Oh Emma that's brilliant footage of her jumping for the raisin. I'll have to try that once I've plucked up the courage scared they peck fingers hard!!
beach chick
training them to eat bindweed ... now THAT's a good idea!
Abbey Road Girl
training them to eat bindweed ... now THAT's a good idea! But I didn't train them, they volunteered!
beach chick
mine volunteered for the goose grass and have done a v. good job. and no bindweed left in the 'chicken zone' - praps shoudl train them to search it out, like sniffer dogs??
Abbey Road Girl
I can't believe that I'm worried about running out of bindweed! The hens have now taken to going for low leaves on the apple trees and Virginia Creeper. Oh yes, the fig leaves (tough as they are) are now fair game! Rose bushes? Bye bye... Abbey Road Girl
I could post you some bindweed.... we have enough for every chicken in the UK!! It might work better if I posted you my chickens! Or we could go into business together supplying bindweed snifferhens as per your suggestion!
beach chick
I think trained sniffer hens is the way forward. just think what people spend on glyphosphate, and it never works!!! they could wear special little hi-vis jackets saying "sniffer hen at work". obviously we could charge a handling fee... Abbey Road Girl
Love the hi-vis jacket idea! I wonder if they would do Japanese Knotweed as well... Our fortunes are made!
