Rhapsody
I was so fed up with the others bullying our baldie girl, I put the Bohos in their run and opened the Orange Eglu door...and who do you think was the only hen who emerged....? (I was too slow with the camera as she legged it out, so here she is with the Bohos fuming in their run) The other Rock Chicks just carried on eating in the run even though the door was wide open The Edge went to inspect my currant bushes and oooh is that corn growing over there? A quick restorative snooze in the sun And then lunch with the management (excuse my face, it always does this when confronted by a camera) How much of a character is she? I have put loads of feeders in the run and sprayed all of them with Ukadex, but the other 3 just keep jumping on her if she sets foot outside the Eglu. Fingers crossed it stops soon! Mrs Slats
That's so sweet. We have 4 ex bats, and of all of them it's the oven ready "Paxo" that's first for everything. first to master the art of slug collection . First to work out where we keep the food . First to, follow me up the garden when I feed the wild birds and first to spot the pink treat bowl from 40 feet. They must have fantastic survival instinct our little baldies

Egluntyne
I'd watch that she doesn't get too much sun with her being so oven ready. She seems to have become a favourite.
Helly Welly
She's lovely isn't she? Definately a real character. I'm sure the pecking will settle once she looks more chicken-like, i bet the others aren't sure what to make of her.

Seagazer
Fantastic photos - I'm so glad The Edge is doing so well. Can I ask how the hen at the front of your first set of photos is? The one that had her eyes closed. I can't remember her name but she looked so sad.

Rhapsody
Thank you everyone- she is a bit of a BHWT Poster Girl isnt she? She's been out with us again this evening (the others were going into the Eglu to beat her up and scoffed half a can of tuna and some mealworms, all spinkled with mash to get her to eat it. My 16yo son has fallen in love with her and sat with her for ages.. Fantastic photos - I'm so glad The Edge is doing so well. Can I ask how the hen at the front of your first set of photos is? The one that had her eyes closed. I can't remember her name but she looked so sad. That was Slash- she is top of the pecking order now!! The Dogmother
I like a feisty girl! What a character - she deserves to thrive and overcome the bullies. I emailed and blogged your photos Rhapsody and have had lots of responses - duly given them my lecture about battery eggs/hidden eggs and cheap, intensively farmed meat. Hopefully they are reformed now and will buy meat and eggs with more thought than before.
MedusA
Bless her, the little oven-ready bundle that she is! I don't begrudge her the favouritism at all! Keep the piccies coming, Rhapsody.
Seagazer
I've also sent the photos on to people - most have come back with 'Oh my god' expressions. I think that a lot of people still don't realise how bad these girls get. Hopefully things will change.
Rhapsody
I'm so glad her pics may make people think about from where their food is sourced. I may have created a monster though- while the others are sooo happy doing chickeny stuff in their gorgeous extended run, she is prowling up and down the run door, trying to get out again! (I have shut the Eglu door once they've laid to make her get on with it a bit more- cruel to be kind and all that)

frenchlayer
She is lovely, soo bald, I had to laugh at Egluntine comment about not letting her get too much sun, she may well get sunburnt. Trying not to contemplate the word 'roasted' Well done you, she is fab.
Rhapsody
Opened the run door last night and out she pelted, then chased me round the garden! I was wearing sparkly flip-flops and had put polish on my toes. My husband was doubled up laughing.
The Dogmother
And doesn't it hurt when they peck your toes? Errr, were you wearing other clothes R, or just the flipflips and nail polish???
