The Dogmother
I gave mine away to a friend who wanted it. Liz, have you had your problems checked out?
ubereglu
No, but I'm thinking about it, just depends what the next one's like. Will perhaps suggest the idea to Mum if it's bad next time.
The Dogmother
Various things can cause heavy periods like that Liz. It's best to get it checked out though and get some tests/ultrasound done just to rule out any potential problems. Otherwise, you could get anaemic. chickencam
My daughter is 14 and she has always had really heavy periods, she was told by the doctor that they will probably settle down over time and she was prescibed mefanamic acid capsules which reduce the bleeding slightly and the pain. She is settling a little now after about 2 years and is also considering mooncup after the success that I have had with mine. If you relax when inserting and removing it you are fine, it is so much more comfortable to use than tampons which I have never liked and I went swimming a couple of times last month with no problems at all. The main thing to watch for is that you buy the right size. A big bonus for me was that i felt so much cleaner than you do using towels. Ain't Nobody Here
A big bonus for me was that i felt so much cleaner than you do using towels. I agree, that's a huge benefit . That and not having to carry tampons/pads with you all the time. You've always got what you need with you (dare I say, in it's purpose built 'container' ). Ain't Nobody Here
I'm "using" mine at the moment and every time I log on and see a post about it, it reminds me that I am - otherwise I forget .
little chickadee
I'm trying it tomorrow. Decided not to try it on the first day. Fingers crossed I manage ok!
little chickadee
Right - I think I'm getting the hang of it. Looked through all the tips earlier in the topic. I can still feel it, but will keep readjusting and hopefully I'll be ok! Husband thinks it's hilarious!

He's actually very well behaved normally and not at all a sterotypical man (changes nappies, cooks, cleans, irons is generally very lovely) I did manage to really gross him out after he'd taken the mick though, although I won't write down here what I said - people may have sensitive stomachs! chickencam
My hubby looked uncomfortable and avoided talking about it, he is normally quite open minded and ED even tells him her woes re. monthly problems, but there is something about the mooncup that he can't quite cope with
The Dogmother
I have to say that Phil was interested in the idea when I tried one.
craftyhunnypie
you know how the mooncup comes in 2 sizes, well what size would I need? I haven't had any children, so nothing has been over stretched I'm really considering giving mooncup a go. I know this sounds really ugh, but how often do you have to remove / change it? Ain't Nobody Here
It all depends on how heavy your period is on each particular day. When it's light you could probably leave it in almost all day. When it's heavy, it could be every couple of hours (every person would be different though). I think it's just a case of trial and error. (I had an accident today - luckily I was at home ). I had mine sterilising in an old saucepan - OH peered in to see what I was cooking . Don't think he fancied it . Oh, and go for the small size if you've not had kids.
Olly
yup - small size if you haven't had kids - it does tell you on the packet, if you're buying it in Boots, but I expect it's on the website as well. I used to check mine frequently when I was getting used to it, but once I got more confident I realised I could leave it for longer. I sometimes leave it in 8 hours or so if it's near the end of my period and quite light.
Jules.
I thought the sizes related to if you have had children & also how old you are- over a certain age you should get the larger size.
The Dogmother
It also relates to whether you've had a normal birth or c section.
little chickadee
Well - I think I'm all sorted now. I've yet to try it on a really heavy day though as I thought I'd try it out in the second half. It did fill with water when had a bath though, so I don't know if I'd be able to wear it when swimming as someone has said they do. Any tips on this? Egluntyne
Is it far enough in? Did you give it a little twist and a tiny pull back to create a seal?
