Ain't Nobody Here
I was a bit nervous today as I was going out for lunch with over 30 colleagues to a fairly trendy restaurant/bar at the heaviest time of my period. My bag was full of wipes and tissues but I managed fine. Had to go twice due to paranoia about overspill but negotiated and successfully completed the public loo "empty and wipe" routine . Also used the loopaper placed on water tip successfully. Glad to say the loos flushed successfully too - bit of a potential nightmare if they didn't . Olly
oh ... that's just brought back memories of an awful experience in Paris with one of those 'Euroloos' ... you know, the automated ones on the street. This was pre-mooncup days, otherwise I wouldn't have been so desperate, but I knew I needed a loo before I leaked. Found one, phew, dealt with everything, and then realised it wouldn't flush until I'd left the cubicle (I think it flushes the floor and everything). Ok - came out, tried to shut the door, and it WOULDN'T CLOSE! I think it's part of the automated thing, it probably has a time-delay so you can't get stuck. I died a thousand deaths, standing in the street waiting for the door to close, and hoping no passers-by could see inside ... I used to check my mooncup about every hour at first because it seemed too good to be true, but you will soon get very blase about it! little chickadee
I've just offered to buy one for my childhood best friend, as I had to send back her christmas present because it was faulty. I don't think she's convinced. Is a coil the same thing as an IUD? If it is, the website says that they can be used together.
Egluntyne
A pal of mine didn't realise how heavily she was losing each month until she started using the Mooncup. (Recommended by me). She got on with it very well but when found she was emptying it every hour for three days and she calculated the quantity, she went to the doctor. She was referred to the Jessop here in Sheffield and was found to have numerous polyps. These were treated and she is now delighted to be having normal periods. So....it is true that they put you in tune with what is going on with your body.
Ain't Nobody Here
I've been wondering about the quantity . How much do they say you should be losing per period? At my heaviest I'm having to empty it every couple of hours or it's in danger of overflowing and I find myself jumping out of bed suddenly in the middle of the night when I feel the telltale signs . That's only for a day or so but it makes for a lot of trips to the loo (tricky when you're not at home (or awake ) ).
The Dogmother
I think that it varies vastly between people Vicki. Before I had my operation, I was losing an enormous amount and had to use super-pads and change evrey couple of hours per night, but that was extreme. I've heard a measurement parameter used somewhere, so it's worth googling.
Egluntyne
I think it's something like 80mls per cycle. As if. Look **here** under "Range of problems".
bronze
I used to check my mooncup about every hour at first because it seemed too good to be true, but you will soon get very blase about it! Oh me too Now I have trouble remembering!
Jules.
It is a bit of a novelty at first, isn't it. I used to check mine every couple of hours, now I only empty it 3 times a day
Keanie Bean
I used one of these for a while but never really got on well with it. I was always aware it was there. Now I use washable pads by minki, who I also buy washable nappies form. Sarah.x
chickencam
I love mine I feel set free, can't persuade ED though she can't face the thought. It is great to be able to go swimming whenever i like, we are members of an expensive leisure club and I always felt i wasn't getting my moneys worth because I only like swimming although it is a bit cold brrr
crazygal
I have read all this thread a few weeks ago, and ordered one. It arrived 2 days later which I thought was brilliant, and I started using it yesterday... wow fantastic!!! It is the most liberating thing ever, and I would like to thank you all for being so candid on here- I had heard of them before but thought oh no I could never do that , but after thinking about it properly and REALLY resenting paying 20p per tampon including giving the government tax! which peeves me greatly, and the damage caused to the environment I decided to go ahead. My DH doesn't want to know really , I haven't told anyone else about it yet- don't know how friends would react but its so great and after sorting out the length of the sticky out bit I can't feel it at all! I wore it last night too, and I even forgot I had my period when I was out earlier on and then remembered again. I'm not sure that I would have been comfortable using one in my 20s, but after giving birth twice, and I "know" myself down there I have no qualms at all. So again thank you everyone- I'm so chuffed. Olly
ditto, in fact I gave away my remaining boxes of Tampax to a friend this weekend, because I just can't see the circumstances when I would use them again. I just wish I'd discovered this years ago, I probably only have a couple more years to use it.

Ain't Nobody Here
ditto, in fact I gave away my remaining boxes of Tampax to a friend this weekend, because I just can't see the circumstances when I would use them again. I've found a use for mine . I've not been brave enough to use the mooncup at my step class yet. It's a really high impact class with a LOT of jumping around. I have visions of it slipping (it doesn't stay in as well as I'd like at the best of times) and I can't exactly nip to the loo and take it out - where would I put it . So I'm still using one tampon during a cycle .
crazygal
I have one nearly full box of tampax which I'm going to keep hold of...I would like to wait a few months down the line before I attempt swimming with a mooncup in- I know it can be done, I just need to be completely confident I wouldn't cause the swimming pool to be evacuated DH still "does not want to know". Funny, he's usually unshockable but this seems to be a stumbling point for him!!!
chickencam
My hubby is the same, he has no problem talking to me or our ED about womens things normally but there is something about the mooncup which he just can't cope with I swam with mine from day one, it fits very securely, I have wondered how much smaller the one for ladies who hae not had babies is because ED was a bit when she saw mine
Egluntyne
It is a matter of millimetres only.
Ziggy
The size of it I'm sure makes most people go when they first see it... it's hard to think, looking at it, that it's so comfortable... I've been wondering about what 'green' options are suitable for young girls just starting... my ED will probably be starting in a year or two, and I emailed the mooncup people asking about the suitability of the smaller model for very young girls, but got no reply... I'd like to encourage my girls (there's four of them, so it's worth thinking about, considering the amount of tampons or pads we'd have to buy!!) to go for green options, like a mooncup or sea pearls (which I use too and find very good as well), but am concerned about the suitability of those, especially at school, where usually toilet cubicles don't have sinks in them for discreet rinsing... Has anyone got any thoughts or advise on this?
Egluntyne
There is **this** Ziggy. It is very green...but there is the problem of carting used items around at school which could prove tricky.
