Cinnamon
As any other parent out there will know, when it comes to getting children to do what you ewant bribery is the only way Cleo has her SATS this week,& as a reward for good results we said that she could choose a little thing which we will buy for her. She has choosen........... BANTAMS I put the blame squarely in Clarets corner,as it was her who posted the pictures of her lovely girls & this has obviously sparked Cleos imagination

Swiss Chick
Agree with Luise and you should have specified your treat better ie. no living things and you do want her do do well in her exams don't you
Guest
shows she has her priorities right, though!
Chicken on a mission
Children always let you down don't they? You teach them to be happy and free thinking and then when they do just that you have to reign them in At least you can clame getting some more chooks on your duaghter I have done this with hubby. It was his idea to get chooks. Now when he mentions the poop then I can gently remind him that it was his idea to get them in the first place so it is his fault. Unfortunately I have ruined this illusion a couple of time by inadvertantly calling them 'my girls'
Cinnamon
We were always planning a second run attatched to this one anyway....& they are little like Louise said. Cleo adores animals & I am forever having to yell "DON'T KISS THE CHICKENS" as it is I reckon it could make a nice little project for her - & more chickens never did anyone any harm, did they? Omlet have a nice yellow mk1 available, which is now on reserve for us

The Dogmother
A yellow mark 1 Sarah? That'll be a collector's item in years to come I don't mind being blamed - banties are lovely and so cute with the way they warble away Have you got a breeder in mind? If not, let me know and I'll give you Pearl's number, she might have some available. There's also another breedr in Banbury, who I haven't tried yet - they have all colours of pekin bantams. Both these numbers are at home, though.
Cinnamon
Thanks Clare, I will pm you for those numbers once we have ourselves sorted out. I think the yellow will look great next to the green I will have to sak Murdo about what colour Glug & Grub to get, though I think Cleo wants one(a bantam) with a feathery hairdo like your one that lays blue eggs,& I love the look of your new yellow coloured one (sorry, can't remeber the names!) The Dogmother
That's Lucille, she's a lemon porcelain dutch bantam. Since getting her, I have found out that this colouring is quite rare She is like a little dove and so friendly too. I just remembered that this lady http://www.cottagepoultry.tk - Liz Holt seemed very good, I gave her a ring when I was still looking. Coincidentally, Tamsin knows her too. Martin B
I wish my Mum sad I could have a reward for my SATs! Congrats on the new eglu!
Linda
A yellow eglu and bantams - what a perfect reward for getting through those rotten sats! It must be an 11-year-old daughter thing - mine was insistent we had to have bantams when we were looking for new chickens. Ours are great - we love them!! AnnieP
YELLOW EGLU!!!!! WOO HOO!!!
The Dogmother
I can see that there's going to be an elite 'Yellow Eglu Owners' club My banties are just perfect! Let me know if DD wants to come and see my array of girls before she makes any decisions.
Cinnamon
Clare, she is driving me mad with her Bantam Chatter - I dare not bring her to meet yours as I would never hear the last of it Bless her,she said she got stuck on a question yesterday,& was thinking about it,was about to give up & thought about her bantams & gave the question a go The yellow Eglu is on order,& will be here in 2 weeks.I have got a green Grub & Glug to go with, but may swap that for Orange as I like the idea of yellow & Orange together. The Bantams will probably be put on hold until after our holiday in the summer,as I don't want to give the neighbours too many hens to look after I would like a blue layer,so it might be 2 Bantams & a Sapphire,or something. I think Sapphires are pretty small, aren't they?
The Dogmother
I understand that they are pretty small, but then so are Araucanas. Our Dolly is a Poland/Araucana cross, she is bigger than the banties, but not as big as a hybrid and it doesn't seem to make a difference as she is very placid. Aunty e
I love my araucana dearly, but she's not an easy bird. She's brilliant to handle, loves sitting on my wrist, easy to catch and lays fantastic eggs almost every day. But she was difficult to integrate at first, hiding in a corner for days and days, and now has developed a grudge against one of the pekins who used to beat her up, and pulls her feathers out. Penny isn't getting hurt or bald, but it's not nice to see. She is also the most ridiculously and irritatingly noisy bird I have. She announces impending egg laying and post-egg laying with something approaching an air raid siren for about thirty minutes both sides and woke me at 6.30am the other morning, when I had been in bed for TWO hours. So if you don't mind noise, you'll be fine with an araucana but I'm told it's not just Purdy, they're all noisy. But cuddly. She does like a cuddle. The Dogmother
The crossing must dilute some of that tendency then; Dolly does like to tell us she's laid an egg, but not really any more than some of the others do. She has a different voice though, and it sounds more primeval if you get my drift. She isn't as outgoing as the pekins (who would be!?), but I put that down to her hairdo restricting her sight somewhat - Tamsin has Polands and will know what I mean about this.
