No ex battery hens this time

Recommended Posts

I have had an email from the Scottish BHWT coordinator saying I have been included in next weekends rescue. We are moving house the following Friday so after much thought I have just emailed back teling Jim I can't take any hens this time

I have made the right decision haven't I :? I just don't think it would be fair on the hens to move them again after a few days. We are moving all our belongings ourselves, me Andy and Jack. Natalie is in charge of the dog and the Bantams. We will have so much to do the day of the move I really do not want another thing to worry about (that sounds very selfish but I don't mean it to be).

Feeling very upset now and have shed a tear. I have been waiting for the email from Jim since February and now I have let him and 4 hens down

Yes Ali-s, I think you have made the right decision. After all lugging about two lots of hens before you're settled wouldn't be a great idea. It will be much better to get your bantams settled again once you've moved and get some rescues later in the year!

Hi Ali, its not a selfish decison at all and you haven't let anyone down. Im sure those girls will be rehomed with someone and when you are settled in your new home you can think about it again.

Good luck with the move, I remember when we moved and we did it ourselves, its a tough job and I said never again!!! :)

If you had taken the four hens, you would have then felt guilty about not spending enough time with them, as ex bats do need more attention. Your time will come again soon with other ex bats needing to be rescued, and you will then have the time ......and energy. Very best wishes with your move. Hope all goes really smoothly and that you settle into your new home. xxx

I think you've made a very unselfish decision :) . It would have been hard on the new girls and also very hard on you - you'd have felt guilty not having the time to spend on them.

You concentrate on your move and when you're all settled, you'll be ready to offer a fantastic home to some deserving girlies!

Good luck with it all :D .

So sorry for you that you can't take the hens this time around, but there are long waits for BWHT hens, especially in Scotland, so I have no doubt they will find a home and someone else will be included in this month's rescue that would have otherwise had to go on waiting. All the best with your move.

You totally made the right decision - It would have been unsettling on the girls to be moved again so soon and you would not have been able to spend the time with them, that they need. Well done a good decision, I'm sure they will have been rehomed really easily what with the huge waiting list in Scotland.

:)
