MedusA
After 5 months of waiting, I got a call from the Araucana breeder yesterday to say my girls were ready! After a hasty reassembling of the spare eglu and run, off we went. The girls are sisters and we got to meet the prize-winning parents too. Their dad is very handsome! They are 10 weeks old and it is like holding little doves in your hand, they are so soft and tiny. It is just about possible to distinguish them as Gabriela has a dark tip to her beak and Violetta has more grey on her head and neck. Apologies for the poor pic, but this is the best I could do last night. Violetta is the one in the foreground. Of course the other girls all ran around complaining "Not MORE chickens!" in their individual ways.

craftyhunnypie
Ooo they are lovely - I think Araucanas ar every special & stunning looking birds, with the added advantage of the lovely coloured eggs. I'm hatching some lavender Araucanas next, just waiting for the eggs to arrive tomorrow. Love the names too - posh names for posh birds! MedusA
Being Chilean (like my OH) we wanted to give them Chilean names. Violetta for the colour obviously, but Gabriela is named after Gabriela Mistral, a "Ooops, word censored!"el prize-winning Chilean poet, so very refined! Looking forward to the blue eggs, but I expect it will be a while before we get any, as they are only babies at the moment.
