The tribe of eglu owners: a burghley house proposal

Recommended Posts

Oh dear - where do I start with this?!!:oops:

I'm currently at university retraining as a jeweller - my second career. And I'm going to a conference in July. I've just received a notification of a project linked with the conference - its a visual art project about jewellery, identity and belonging.

They're asking participants to seach for jewellery in a tribal context, and make 7 digital images of 7 pieces of jewellery worn by a group of people (e.g. hairdresser, bikers, housewives, policemen, rich "Ooops, word censored!"es, disco dancers etc). (Their examples not mine)

Well it occured to me that we are a 'tribe': a tribe of eglu owners! And we'll be wearing badges, some with our avatars! And these are very much about using a piece of jewellery to signify identity and belonging! It's just what they're looking for: 'record the unusual and idiosyncratic - reaffirm the individual and different'!

So would those of you who're going to Burghley on Sunday be up to having your photo taken with your badge on?!

If I get 7 images I can submit them and they may be displayed with other similar groups of images in London in July, or possibly used in a book later on...

(sorry its long!)

Oh, yes, that about sums it up!

I don't mind, but it'll only be a pen & paper badge.

Just occurred to me that we might want to wear our avatar badges at the get-together this weekend, when I remembered that it's about time I updated this thread!

I submitted the tribe photos and they were included in the exhibition, and seen by a small number of international jewellers.

I've put a photo of our bit of the exhibition in the photo gallery: 'the omlet tribe'.

Unfortunately they didn't put any words up, so my explanatory note wasn't seen, and I don't know what sense people made of our tribe!

Anyway, its good to have an exhibition to put on my CV - so thank you!
