Guest
I bought this lovely bottle of "Chat en Ouf" last week. Part of the profits go to the RSPCA (NOT why I bought it!). It's an interesting play on words (I got it after 2 days - not bad considering it took me 4 books to get Diagon alley!). Its also a rather nice little fruity number, I noticed they do a red and a white too as well as the Rose. The label is lovely and embossed too - not sure if you can see that in the picture. Another Omlet must have???? I seem to have nearly finished this bottle.... [/url]
sparkysmum
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, Looks yum No Waitrose in Scotland that I know of but I'm sure someone somewhere sells it. Nothing quite like a wee sherry in the evening is there lol
Tessa the Duchess
Although I think the label is quite stylish I do have a down on wines with jokey names. There are some terrible ones about I think one is called 'Old Git' and some of them are quite rude So, nope I won't be buying this one. Hope you enjoy it though. deejmum
We had this with our sunday dinner an really enjoyed it. It is a nice appelation controlee wine and was very smooth. I thought it was a clever play on words, and I liked the idea of supporting the RSPCA

ebaygirl
You can get it in Morrisons too. Possibly Tesco as well. Sarah
Guest
I didn't think of it as a jokey name more a play on words. As I said it took me 4 books to get Diagon Alley and another one to get Nocturn Alley so normally I don't get them at all! I bought this because I was looking for a rose and it was the right price, the label intrigued me for having the cat and egg and I wondered why they gave it such a strange name. 2 days later I said to Mum "I think I'll have a glass of Chat en Oeuf" and that's when the play on words hit me! I bought a different one today as this one was nearly empty but I think I may buy it agian.
jlo
Penguinmad, if it makes you feel any better, I have only just got Knockturn Alley now that I have read it in your post!
Guest
ROFL now I feel better! One of my friends who is a VERY clever woman once admitted to me that she was very glad we had never had a smoking room conversation about Harry Potter as it was only when she saw the film that she realised how to pronounce Hermione, in her head she had always said it wrong, it was Her-me-one to her. hils78
Lol re the HP reference took me a few goes too I have only ever had one bottle of the 'real' Chateaux neuf de Pap' if thats how you spell it. I remember actually enjoying it which was a surprise as boyf at the time was a supposed wine buff & all the other supposed good ones to me were horrible! chili pepper
Hubby bought me a bottle of red called 'Goats do roam' as a play on the Cotes Du rhone wine. Havent a clue what all the HP references are though
Sheilaz
...Havent a clue what all the HP references are though ..that was following the play on words, & was about how the written word doesn't always make pronunciation clear. The HP character Hermione has a name that we probably only know how to pronounce once we have heard it, not just by reading it. I was the same with the word meringue for about 30 years. I had no idea it was the same as the cake pronounced merang!
dogs and chickens
Havent a clue what all the HP references are though So glad I'm not the only one! Clearly my brain does not process the word play, I would have to have it explained in detail I never get jokes either Mind you everyone normally finds it really funny that I'm sat there going Huh This is just another one of those times ! Guest
Penguinmad, if it makes you feel any better, I have only just got Knockturn Alley now that I have read it in your post! I just got that now as well...... I got my father a bottle of Chat en Ouf for Christmas, along with a bottle of 'Old Git' and 'Cats Pee on a Gooseberry Bush' The 'Old Git' was by far the best! dancing cloud
The wine looks like an excellent gift for cat/hen friends, who will appreciate the play on words and the picture . I'm nowhere near a Waitrose (or anything resembling a decent supermarket), but I'll keep a lookout for it. I only knew how to pronounce Hermione because there was one in some book or play we read at school. Knew all that education would come in handy one day
Hen Watch
I'm nowhere near a Waitrose (or anything resembling a decent supermarket), but I'll keep a lookout for it. Buy my wine online from Waitrose but got to get a case really. http://www.waitrosewine.com/Search/Search.aspx?SearchTerm=chat+en+oeuf&Offset=1&refined=

Looney
I used to think it was pronounced Her-me-own until I heard it said out loud I used to struggle with the name Penelope when I was little. I had a book with a character called Penelope and I always said it exactly how it was written i.e. Pene-lope and not with an 'eeee' sound on the end! Anyway, back on topic the wine looks great. Snowy
Will give that wine a try, thanks Pengy! (and I'm another who only realised the correct pronunciation of Hermione when the HP film came out, and I didn't get Knockturn Alley ) I don't know - these authors/film makers probably don't have a clue how much of their carefully considered word play is completely over the heads of about 90% of the population!
