clootie
I can't find Becky or Little Louie anywhere. Marjorie is walking around bemused. I have looked absolutely everywhere. They were all there at 7am this morning and when I went out with treats a couple of hours later, one came running when I called to them but no sign of the others and I put it down to the fact that they maybe just didn't hear me wherever they were. I've searched high and low but nothing. They never did venture far anyway so it's even more of a puzzle. Maybe they'll come out of hiding later.............? No evidence of Mr Fox returning that I can see. I've even been through the woods, nothing. Oh dear. I'm down to one chook and a cube coming in September - I'm losing chickens at a rate of knots. Maybe I should cancel and leave it for a while.
Egluntyne
Bad luck. Maybe they have just gone walkabout. There is usually a bit of evidence if Monsieur Reynard has taken them. Is your garden accessible? Maybe a two legged predator has taken them. There is a lot of it about at the moment, sadly. I hope they turn up safe and well. clootie
Thanks Egluntine and yes, we are accessible. It had crossed my mind when we lost three at once with no feathers as evidence of you know who. Fingers crossed my girls will come out to wonder what all the fuss was about !! I'm ever hopeful. Thanks though.
chucknette
Hi Clootie Sorry to hear your news I lost one of mine today. We thought a fox had got her as there was a bit of a commotion going on. Only there was no sign that a fox had been in the garden. We searched high and low for her but couldnt find her. So we resigned ourselves that we had lost her. Later on in the afternoon when they were all sitting together and you mentally count them, we realized she was back I do know that if they dont want to be found they are difficult too find. Hopefully yours will return soon, maybe nearer bed time or treat time. Good luck
clootie
Thanks Chucknette, I hope the wanderers return tonight. I'll be sitting outside painting until it gets dark waiting for them. I'll have a few words for them when they do !!
mrs chook
Hope they make a return as dusk approaches. Have you tried calling or waving about their fave treats, or have you asked any neighbours? Maybe some one has found them and got in touch with local vet/animal rescue? Might be worth a go, I don't know what's around you obviously, but maybe someone has found them if they've escaped???? Abbey Road Girl
They can hide very effectively, so let's hope for a safe return!
clootie
They have returned making me feel very embarrassed for posting a "missing" topic for them on this forum. No apology from them, no hanging of heads in shame for causing me to worry so much, just an expression of "whatevah" I should have known by now that they might go awol only to turn up when they felt like it. Grrrr. I am relieved though especially after what's happened recently - that's what made me think they had been on the menu for you know who. Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words. Sorry to have been such a wuss.

mrs chook
I might leave a box of chicken oxo in full view, I'm sure they can read. Tears running down my cheeks at that. Get the same from kids, dog and chooks - who's in charge here?!?!?!

FruitandNutCake
I know how you feel! One of mine disappeared and wouldn't come out of hiding. My three girls wee put out when the new ex-batts were resding in their favourite nesting place. I eventualy found Chuck in a freshly made "nest" in the middle of my montbretia clump. Perfectly flattened in the middle but the surrounding leaves were hiding her completely. And she was being so quiet too!
