ajm200
I'0 in the middle of my first day off from being Mum and it feels so odd. The house seems so big and too quiet after 20 months of constant company from a little one. I'm lost for something to do to fill the silence. I would go for a long walk or do some spring cleaning but I'm still supposed to be resting... Do all Mums feel like this when the little ones are away for the first time? Lapinou
Do all Mums feel like this when the little ones are away for the first time? Can't speak for other mums, but I certainly feel pretty bored when one of mine disappears - it's amazing what a difference just one child can make - and totally bereft when I'm totally alone in the house! Egluntyne
I can remember feeling like that. I love it when they all clear off now and I can revel in the silence.
Snowy
That's my weekend as well, little ones gone camping with grandparents. The house is eerily quiet and tidy!
Yolky
We are having two nights off too (although I did have my eldest daughter here last night but at 14 she is no trouble) the boys are at my Mums till Sunday night and my eldest daughter is on a tent sleepover tonight. I have to say it has been bliss. I don't very often get a whole day to myself and it has been lovely to potter. I got my husband to feed/let out the chooks this morning so I could lay in and I also found my first TWO eggs (see egg section) I think I may mow the lawn now. Angels4
I never thought I would miss the noise and sometime choas three darling boys would create. I'm helping to raise my sisters boys. She is away at a writing course and the boys are with their dad in Maine, which leaves me alone to putter about. I MISS them But what a suprise I have for them when they come home....8 new kittens.YAY
Paola
The only thing I really like if the kids are ever away is the fact that when you tidy the house it stays that way
BeckyBoo
The only thing I really like if the kids are ever away is the fact that when you tidy the house it stays that way I LOVE that, takes about half the time it normally does to tidy up because you're not being constantly interrupted "Mum, can I have..." "Mum, she's done this...." "Mum she said......" and it stays that way too! Mine are all away this weekend too, they went at 1030 this morning. I have cleaned out the chooks, fed the veggie patch and the patio pots, walked the dog, had a pint at the pub, OH has just been to the butchers and bought us some steak, he's stopping off at the post office to buy a bottle of pinko vino - evening sorted That said, I miss them like CRAZY! First time any of mine went away I cried I still struggle sometimes because I feel so guilty that I'm looking forward to them going. But they'll be having a good time with granny and Aunty and I'm enjoying the peace, the tidiness and the calm. AND the NO CBEEBIES or Nick Jr!!! Rhapsody
No. I just sat in a chair and laughed for about an hour, then had a loooooong bath with book and wine.
Seagazer
I used to hate it if the kids, when they were little, were away for any time. Now I love it! The house stays tidy and quiet. My middle son left 6th form early and just lounged around the house from about April until 3 weeks ago when he got a job. Bliss. I tidied the house in the morning and it was clean until little one got back from school.
rusky123
LOL, I can remember the first day without any of my little 3 darlings, going into town on a bus and shouting "Look at the pretty butterfly"

Guest
I love the peace when the children are all away - I still miss them like crazy - but I must admit to appreciating the odd moment I get of total stillness more than I could ever have imagined 'BC'
FruitandNutCake
It is very strange when the kids aren't around. Because of my 8 year old being autistic, I've probably only had about 5 days without him in 8 years (2 of which were when I was in hospital having my second one!) and it does seem too quiet! But even after I've dropped them off at school and nursery, I still hear noises from the back of the car on the way to work!! Or forget that I've dropped them off, and turn around to look cos I think little one is being too quiet, then realise he isn't in the car! BeckyBoo
LOL, I can remember the first day without any of my little 3 darlings, going into town on a bus and shouting "Look at the pretty butterfly" I've done that, or something similar, going round the supermarket and talking to an empty trolley, counting out the carrots as I put them in the trolley, that kind of thing I saw another woman doing it the other day and I actually said to her "Have you left the children at home today then?" She went bright red and laughed!! Mrs B
Egluntyne
I still find myself rocking the supermarket trolley as if it were a pram with a sleepy baby in it. My youngest is 18 so I guess old habits die hard.
Ms Marple
My eldest goes back to Uni next Fri. The house will be tidier, there will still be some food in the fridge and yet even with one still at home I will cry. It will start as I set off up the motorway back to Manchester. It gets easier I guess, yet I will often go into his room and pick up books and artefacts off the shelf and just hold them....... am I mad/ or just a mum.. Plum
Dont worry they'll be back. Keep coming back. Cant stop them - tried I cried both times driving home after leaving them at university for the first time and got a hard to control lump in my throat each time they went off again. still do. Love having my sewing room and a bit of peace. Cant wait for Christmas even if I have cancelled it due to a lunatic siamese kitten.
