LJ's Chooks
So i found a mouse in my chooks corn this week... smiling up at me with a very fat belly!! However, more of a shock was the cost of dustbins in B&Q 10 pounds for a plastic one and 25 for a metal one Anybody got any better ideas... B&Q is extortionate but i need to do something. jackiepoppies
Just an idea......restaurants and chip shops etc have very large drums that they bulk buy their cooking oil in. Jackiex
Yolky
Wilkinsons have them for £13.99 and my local hardwear shop sell them for 14.99 (I know that it isn't local to you but I mean it might be worth checking out your local hardware shop too)
Helly Welly
I got mine from freecycle, it was a bit battered but has done the job perfectly. Ask for a metal one, i think mice can chew through plastic ones.
Joojoo
I bought 4 heavy duty plastic ones with clip on lids from my local hardware store and they were about £7 each which was a lot cheaper than the rest of the DIY shops. Is it worth having a look on ebay?
Egluntyne
I got mine (3) from a local hardware shop and paid £16 each for them.
Christian
Ikea sell metal dustbins with a lid for laundry. £12 each I think.
Tessa the Duchess
Got mine from Ikea, £11. Course it's difficult to go there and just buy a bin, so it does work out a lot more expensive in the end Tessa

chocchick
Careful of the metal ones with loose lids. I found the mice could get through the tiny gap under the lid and smile back at me (or jump) when I took the lid off I found they homed back to our shed when frightened and had obviously found a cushy dry home with food supply. I bought a second plastic one with a lid that clamps down tightly and keep it outside.
Egluntyne
I use luggage cords to hold the lid down firmly.
chocchick
It was the gap between lid and bin as the lid was on when the mice got in
Egluntyne
My luggage cords hold them down so tight that nothing could get in. There don't seem to be any gaps. I have actually been on my hands and knees to check after reading this thread. Must get out more.
Lewis
If you happen to crew a production of FAME you could end up with 4 benches to go in the garden and 4 dustbins, then turned into a compost bin and feed storage ins
