Had to cancel my lovely cube

Recommended Posts

Well, the bombshell of husband being out of work has dropped on us from a great height. As from the end September, his contract will have come to an end. Oh well, worse things could happen. I'm healthy, so is he and most importantly so are our lovely kids. Timing couldn't be worse but 'aint that always the way?

I'm, kinda thinking maybe we should sell up and move up to the islands of Scotland and open a B&B - I'm not joking either. We talked last night for a long time and I am a great believer in things happening for a reason so, maybe it's time for a life changing opportunity. So, I had to cancel my lovely purple cube and I had managed to secure a run from a lovely lady in Rainham which I also had to cancel (felt bad about that) but I won't cancel my daughter's rablu - she deserves to have that and would be heartbroken if it had to be postponed. So chaps, there you have it.............. I could be Omletting up in the highlands and islands where, of course, you would all be made most welcome! Now just the little matter of selling our house...................... Keep you all posted!! :)

Thanks Egluntine, just have to convince my husband that it's a good idea and that it's an even better idea to take our 14 yr old, who is about to embark on his GCSE journey, out of school and plonk him in another. Our 12 yr old would be fine but not so sure about our son. Timing is lousy to say the least.

Oh Clootie, I'm sorry to hear about your husband's job, tough to be looking at being out of work in the Autumn :( . But it sounds like a great opportunity for a complete change for you all :D . It's a tough call about the children and their education, but generally young people are amazingly resilient, and if you have them on board too and they're motivated to make the change it's amazing what they can achieve 8) .

Good luck with it, I guess you've got a load of talking to do and decisions to make.....I really hope that you can take this bit of bad news and turn it into a fabulous new opportunity.

Bad news about the cube though.....I'm sure it's just a postponement though

Thanks guys - appreciate the support.

Kate - funny how we were only talking about your move and what we as a family had considered over the years!! Looks like we won't be going as far as NZ though!! I'm just looking at the details of a lovely place on Skye .................. *sigh*

Sorry to hear about your OH's job but like the positive attitude you have to the situation. :D and of course Scotland has great schools :lol:, or at least they used to be the best, not really up to date on that sort of thing nowadays.

What does your OH do? Hope you don't mind me asking but you never know, someone on here might just know someone . . .

Sorry to hear about your OH's job, but I'm with you, things DO happen for a reason although sometimes it can be hard to see it at the time. Good luck with whatever you decide, this could turn out to be a totally liberating time for you all and I really hope your daughter loves her Rablu

I sympathise, definately a cube postponement. On the plus side, good you have some notice, I know September is not much notice but it has helped you make a decision to postpone a financial outlay.

My chooks arrived April 07, one week later hubbie was made redundant and came home same day. I was gutted and although loved my decision to buy chooks it was tainted by knowing I had a huge visa bill for an eglu hanging over us.

One of the positive things to come out of hubbies redundancy is we took a long hard look at our finances and what we spent our money on. If it wasn't essential (or you couldn't eat it) I didn't buy it. No fortnightly bunch of flowers, no impulse buys of clothes, no extra food (if the kids ran out of ham for sandwiches I would have popped to the shops and probably spent another £10 whilst I was there) so they got jam sarnies instead.

It was a reality check and we actually dramatically reduced our monthly outgoings by hundreds of pounds. And it will be a good excuse for you to make life changing decisions too (like your B&B idea).

Good luck.

You're all great, supportive, positive thinking people and I thank you very much for your comments. We all have stuff we have to deal with and we have to do just that, deal with it. Rona, to answer your question, my husband is an Insurance Analyst with various companies in London and has commuted to the City for 25 years. I wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes.

I took my daughter to the dentist today, she had her first consultation with the orthodontist as she will need braces. Unfortunately she was told she would have to have three teeth removed to prepare for the braces in September. They checked with her dentist while we were there and she had time to do it straight away - yikes!! Talk about no time to think about it !! Best way I reckon, she would only have been worrying about it till her appointment came around. She was very brave and considering she has never had any treatment at all so far at the dentist, took it in her stride. I was the one looking out of the window so as not to see!! Needless to say it cost me £24 for a new DS game !!

Thanks again everybody for your positive comments. xx

So sorry to hear your bad news. Keeping everything crossed that this is the start of something new and exciting :lol:8)

Well done to your daughter too. My son hadn't had any treatment at all when he had to have 2 teeth out last year in preparation for braces  I was more upset about it than he was :oops:

We have just been through that too - 7 months out of work. It's tough but I quite enjoyed the reality of it. If it's gone, it's gone. But it's also dead miserable and worrying, because you don't know how long you're doing it for. The food is one thing, but other things began to get at me. We had a kettle on a 360 degree base, which only worked on about 5 degrees. Our towels (10 years old) were threadbare, literally, but we couldn't warrant buying more. Thank goodness for eggs though! :D We ate a lot of those and I was very grateful for them!

Best wishes Clootie!
