Egluntyne
There is no button for Aubiose which is my choice.
Mrs Frugal
I've tried bark, sand and now woodchippings and love the woodchippings best of all. Easy to maintain as the droppings disappear into them. They keep the smell down to a bare minimum and once we've finished with them, we bag them all up and dig them into the allotment! I've only needed to change them every 3-4 months when they start to look a bit dingy or the dust level is bad. The Cube always has a layer of dust on it from them flinging the chippings around!! mrsallen08
Hiya We are considering a new floor too for winter as we are down to no grass and no roof! where is the best place to find woodchippings kate? thanks for this topic peachy77! choppish
i get my woodchippings from B&Q £10 for 3 big bags.
Mrs Frugal
We get our wood chippings in big bales from a farm supplier where they have equestrian supplies as they are used as horse bedding. They are around £4-5 each and are big enough to do half the run per bale.
Angels4
There is no button for Aubiose which is my choice. Nor straw, which is mine.

Ain't Nobody Here
I've always used Hemcore which is great but my horsey supplier won't be stocking it any more (just as well, it had gone up to £12.75 a bale ). Going to change to Easibed when I need some more bedding. I believe it's much cheaper.
Peachy77
Thanks Christian, and everyone else for their input.
cluckbok
I think Hemcore is the best as it's citronella impregnated so keeps the chooks smelly nice. I also think that having a covered run is a must otherwise the hemcore doesn't last as long and goes all claggy and muddy, then the poor chooks end up in a mess. Our chooks hate heavy rain so they need cover.
lisa33
Doh. I put Hemcore, but I meant Aubiose. I find it softer than Hemcore and I believe it composts quicker too.
Angels4
I would LOVE to try Hemcore or Aubiose, but those items not available in the US.
shaun
Woodchip - as it's cheap, relatively easy to get (as long as B&Q stock it) and stays fairly clean.
Peachy77
with woodchips, are they easy to pick up the poo. Saw some in b&q last night - looked like bark
MedusA
I ticked Aubiose. Having tried Hemcore and wood chip too, I definitely prefer Aubiose. As for the citronella. I add that myself (in the eglu tray and nest - not in the run).
jomaxsmith
I'm using Easibed at the mo as it was cheaper than Aubiose when I last went - I'm quite impressed with it. I really liked Aubiose too (found it nicer to handle than Hemcore) but I'm finding Easibed seems better in the wet (my run is covered with a winter and summer shade but rain seems to get in anyway!) Mutrix Farmers
I like the idea of auboise and hemcore, but keeping it dry puts me off trying it (and the cost). We've just built a permanent run base out of bark and are very pleased with it (the girls seem to like it too)
shaun
with woodchips, are they easy to pick up the poo. Saw some in b&q last night - looked like bark No problem - in fact much of the poo seems to disappear! Also seems to absorb the odours
jackiepoppies
I know what you mean Angels4.......I would love to use Aubiose having read everyones recommendations, but like you I can't find it here and it's FRENCH Jackiex
mrsallen08
Hiya After someone elses recommendation I think we are going to go for woodchips over the autumn/winter. I did want woodchips rather than bark as I think it will be nicer for them to scratch around in. These seem quite good from B&Q and I think 3 packs should sort run. Does anyone have any experience with these in the wet weather or is a roof on run only option?
