Domestic fowl trust

They have a very nice shop with lots of chickenalia. They also have a large collection of fowl that you can view for a fee (although their pens do look rather poorly looked after).

They have a good selection of magazines and books too.

It's well worth a visit if only to stock up on essentials

It is a nice place to walk round especially as the chickens are all so friendly for treats. I agree with the bit about the pens though, we had to get one of the staff to rescue a tangled up duck and I saw the remains of a chicken which had obviously been had by a fox. I cant remember but I also think there are a couple of pigs there too

The shop is great and the people who work there are really friendly :D

They do lovely lemon cake and coffee in the cafe.

The shop is great, full of chickeny bits and bobs, and supplies.

The chooks for sale are crammed into small cages and that's a bit upsetting but there are omleteers who have bought chooks and are very happy with them.

Very muddy though in wet weather (we went in January!) so take some wellies just in case!

Hi,

I took my 4yr old son and he thoroughly enjoyed it. However if you search on the forum you'll see there are mixed feelings about the place. Personally my experience was good however although they do have an amazing mix of birds, some of their living conditions do not appear well maintained (but that could just be cosmetic).

Definitely take some wellies. And don't be alarmed about the small cages the birds are put in for sale. I think this is just temporary for show. The shop is great and pekins & bantams are ever so cute and if escaped, will happily join you.

Have fun :D

Christine.

I went a few weeks ago, I thought the shop was quite good though the lady serving behind the counter was very anti Omlet and the Eglu, she also accused Omlet of stealing the design for the cube from one of their chicken coops. The chickens are really friendly though especially if you have food! Shame their chicken houses are so dirty.

I visited a few weeks ago too and was pretty disappointed with the place to be honest. I don't think I'd ever buy from there - the birds for sale are literally crammed into cages. There were about 5 silkie crosses in 1 cage when I had a look in the for sale bit.

But the birds are very friendly when you are wandering around, there is one super friendly buff pekin cockerel who just runs around after you all day!

They also have pigs, rheas, turkeys, baby pheasants/quails and a huge selection of chicks to see too.

My chickens all came from here and I was very happy with them. The cages only hold the birds for a matter of hours (or minutes these days) before they are sold - I have been their as cages have emptied and been refilled from stock in the pens as they are selling so fast.

hi we went a couple of weeks ago, agree that some of the pens look a bit run down the shop had lots of bits and pieces in (kiddy toy stuff as well!) watch out for the stinging nettles though espec if you have kiddies with you we had a few stung legs :( . However the kiddies enjoyed it and spent much of the time being ambushed for food :D
