Ain't Nobody Here
I know this is pathetic, it's only a toaster, but I can't decide which one to buy . I want one with 4 slices, wide & long slot, option to put 2 only on or all 4. Any I've looked at on Amazon have rubbish or mediocre reviews or everyone loves it except one person who says it's the worst toaster ever . I'm prepared to pay up to about £40 so really want it to work properly. Anybody got a toaster they would rave about?
Joojoo
I bought this one a few months ago http://www.electrical123.com/products/ProductDetail.asp?productcode=TEF-TOA-TT7441-BK It's great. Does crumpets too
Ain't Nobody Here
Funny, that was one of the ones I was keen on . The Amazon reviews were pretty mixed though which is what put me off. If you reckon it's good, though, I might give it another thought . And crumpet toasting needs to be safe in my house, so that's a bonus . Joojoo
Touch wood I haven't had any problems with it. And it is great for crumpets. I've not had any get stuck in there yet If you have any others in mind have a look how much they are on the site I gave you as I've found them very hard to beat on prices. I bought a new dishwasher from them last year too and they saved me loads of £s on that, plus they gave free delivery and Comet wanted £22 and they are only 4 miles away I always wanted a Dualit toaster but sadly that's way out of my price range. This one looks nice and does the job so that's good enough for me
Joojoo
Just had a look at some of the reviews. Re turning it on under the kitchen cupboards and them getting hot - they will with any toaster. I would always pull it out from underneath the cupboards. We use Kingsmil medium sliced bread and it's fine. I haven't tried thick in it but can't see you would have a problem. It does the crumpets ok and they are quite thick. I've never noticed any problem with the plastic handles bowing Mine is as it was when I bought it, so I can only assume they had a dodgy one. It is quite wide but it's a four slice toaster so it's going to be. If there is anything else you want to know just ask
Cinnamon
They 'did' toasters on The Gadget Show a week or so ago - if you go to their site there will be plenty of reviews. We have a Dualit - its fantastic! Here is a link to The gadget Shows review,by the way http://gadgetshow.five.tv/jsp/5gsmain.jsp?lnk=401&featureid=887&show=s9e8§ion=Consumer
chocchick
We've had one similar to this for a few years and not had any problems http://www.russellhobbs.co.uk/Polished_Classic_2_Slice_Toaster_qp_65.html it has a crumb tray and fits crumpets (didn't realise you weren't supposed to remove with knives until the recent thread here ). It's generally only used for OH's toast. It only has one k"Ooops, word censored!" to adjust the time (not 2 or 3 as in the picture) but you can fine tune by turning as much as you want. ..lay a little egg for me
After having to buy a new toaster roughly every 6 months, we decided to go for a Dualit. Could not afford one new, so got a nearly new one from eBay for about £70. Very pleased with it so far, I expect it will go wrong but at least one can buy the spare parts easily and it is fixable at home. I was starting to feel very guilty about the amount of toasters going into landfill sites from our home! Having tried quite expensive to very cheap in the past we decided that they all failed just as easily as one another so reckoned it was best either to get a cheap on and expect to throw it away after a year or a Dualit and try to keep it going! Good luck with whatever you choose, but I would say, don't expect it to last very long! Seems to be the same story with washing machines...they are just not designed to last these days. Egluntyne
Ditto to what Cinnamon says....go for a Dualit. A bit pricey, but streets ahead of the others and last forever.
chelsea
Seems to be the same story with washing machines...they are just not designed to last these days. now that I completely agree with! both me and my sister have had to buy brand new washing machines in the past fornight! Toasters to me are a different story, a toaster is a toaster to me so I couldnt justify paying that amount of money for a Dualit one. Cheap and cheerful toasters here for the amount of time we actually use it.
chocchick
I think we bought our toaster either 5 years ago when we moved in, or replaced not long afterwards. The jury's out on the washing machine as fairly new.
Snowy
After several failed toasters, I also went for a dualit - it's a magnificent beast! Stainless steel, 6 slices! A real workhorse for our toast munching boys. Got it for £50 off ebay
Seagazer
I've had a cheap morphy richards white toaster for years - I'm waiting for it to die..... I'd love a Dualit and hubby keeps saying lets get one but until the old one bites the dust, we'll just have to keep going with it
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks for the input, everyone . Very useful. Just asked OH how much, maximum, he'd spend on a toaster. £30 he says, so I think a Dualit isn't an option, he'd have a fit if I spent £70 . I'll have a look at the Gadget Show ones - thanks for the link.
bronze
Just don't get this one http://www.johnlewis.com/230412379/Product.aspx because its rubbish. We got one it didn't toast both sides so took it back they said oh it must be a duff one gave us an exchange second one is still rubbish. trouble is we can't get to JL very easily so are having to put up with it. AM not happy
Slats
I expect my dualit one to last years so it was worth the money. Maybe get a bargin toaster now but next birthday/xmas get all your family/friends to club together for a dualit!! You could also go down the route of it also replacing a toasted sandwich maker by also getting the sandwich cage http://www.dualit.com/content.asp?page=/catalogue/productRange.asp?categoryCode=15 which makes the BEST cheese toasties (also useful for things prone to breaking/sticking in the toaster i.e. hot cross buns)
Tessa the Duchess
I have the cheapest toaster on the planet, a Cookworks around £10. It is absolute rubbish, only toasts on one side, and the 'pop up' bit is very tempremental, doesn't always work, you have to stand by it and be ready to pop up manually It's been going strong for about 8 years, I can't wait for it to break down I always use the handle of a wooden spoon to fish out stuck crumpets Tessa
Ain't Nobody Here
My brain's hurting trying to choose a darn toaster . I'm going to go to Comet, pick one that does what I want and at least if it breaks down I'm only 10 minutes away for taking it back . Would love a Dualit one, but OH would not be impressed . I'm off toast at the moment anyway, as I'm trying to lose weight .
Helen&Lee
We have the DeLonghi 4 slice toaster - 7 years old and still going strong, great toaster.

Good luck.
..lay a little egg for me
What about a Dualit Lite **See here**. All the quality at a reduced price. I've heard the Dualit lite is not as reliable, plus it does not use the 'clockwork' timer and manual toast lift but the 'standard' mechanism used on all other toasters where you press a lever down to lower the toast, which switches the element on and then an electronic timer triggers the toast to lift and the elements to switch off (probably there is a simple term for this but I can't think of what it is !!!). Anyway, that is the bit that has always broken on our previous toasters so I went for a Dualit Vario, which has all mechanical parts (which you can replace). chickencam
What did you get ANH? I came on here today to post about toaster choices because our Tefal Avanti 4 slot toaster has died on the most used side. Ideally I could do with a toaster that wouldn't look out of place on that Birdseye advert 10 slots at least we are big toast eaters in our house We were looking last night and read a lot of mixed Amazon reviews too and ended up very confused. I would like to get one from either a Tesco store or Tesco Direct because I have quite a few unspent clubcard vouchers which I would like to use I am prepared to spend upto about £60. I could of course spend my money elsewhere and use the vouchers for grocery shopping instead
Omletina Kyckling
I have a Kitchenaid toaster, they are pricey but superb. It makes the best toast and they just go on and on....I had a Philips one years ago and that lasted for about 10 years, then I had a succession of one year wonders (just got beyond their warranties each time) so decided to go for a good 'un.
