TopCat
When we were setting up our Eglu we went to get some Aubiose or Hemcore for the run, and the lady at the shop said that there had been huge fire at the Aubiose plant in France, so it would be very hard to get for a while. They were also out of Hemcore, so we got something called Nedz Bed which is working really well. No smells etc. Just thought Aubiose users may like to know. Egluntyne
I had no probs getting 2 bales last week in Sheffield. It had gone up a bit in price though.
Yolky
My husband got two bales in Bristol too. We paid £8.50 a bale, what sort of price do others pay?
Old Speckled Hen
Never heard of NEDZ so had a Google: looks like oversize wood-based cat litter. Let us know how it works out. How often do you have to clean it out and how absorbent is it? I'm on shavings but "the troop of velociraptors" free-range most of the day so it stays clean. I've been looking for an alternative to use when I'm away and chooks are run-bound. By the way ..... when I was working "The factory (always outside UK, mind) had a bad fire which has interrupted/stopped production" was quite a common excuse for supply problems. Strange how inflammable it seems to be over the channel! Have to run. Lovely laying/clucking sound from coop must cradle that warm egg!!!! MadMitch
Everywhere I go has been out of Aubiose for 3 weeks now and the one bale I could find I paid I think it was £12.46 for it, got easybed this time but I don't like it as much. poachedegg
We paid £12+ today and it was their last one.
moomin
I had to get easibed too, I much prefer Aubiose. Easibed seems very heavy and doesn't soak up moisture so well
BeckyBoo
I found Flax a good cheap alternative, I can't remember how much it was but when there was a shortage before it was all I could get and it was great. I'll probably be buying it again if I can find it £12 is very steep, I think I pay around the £8 mark normally Mrs B
Chicken Licken
I pay about £8 for a bale of hemcore - it is much softer since they moved plant - or whatever it was they did last year. Chookies seem happy with it and it smells lovely.
Hen Watch
I pay £8.25 for a bale of Auboise. Got one last month.
Lewis
I've never seen it before untill yesterday when I popped round the corner to look for turkey crumbs for the quail. I can't remember a price

chocchick
Egluntine, Horse and Rider (Sheffield) has not had any aubiose for about a week . They don't have anything similar, I asked about Flax, but seemed to think the aubiose factory was on holiday for a week. They also said they didn't have any direct contact with the supplier so can't tell me if it'll be in next week. edit: On a horse forum someone said aubiose suppliers take a 4 week holiday
stoice
Don't most of France take nearly all of August off as holiday? Aubiose is the french type of Hemcore isn't it? Maybe that's why?

mostin
Hi, do you all use these bedding alternatives in the eglus, or out side in the runs if you keep the run in the same place?
