Sir....the dog ate my homework!

Don't start me on USB pen drives...

You wouldn't BELEIVE how bad they are, they die, they corrupt and sometimes the just fall apart. I've lost stuff on them a few times and students who ONLY KEEP THEIR WORK ON THEIR USB DRIVE actually make me tear my hair out.

Yeah I agree with the USB pen drive comment - I don't trust them at all!!! I keep all my work saved in about 3 different places as well as having a hard copy because I just don't trust any of it!! Having said that there is a USB stick on amazon that you can drive a car over and it still works so I wonder if that is dog chew proof............

Do you mean this one?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Rugged-Water-Resistant-CMFUSB2-0-1GB/dp/B000CH3IIW/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219604011&sr=8-13

I knew the one you meant because I have one!

It's dead

Well it died completely but there seemed to be a loose connection in it as if you wiggled it about you could get it to come back to life. That worked for a couple of weeks. Now its back to DEAD. Was an 8GB one too.

Casing is still intact though, except of course I lost the lid after a couple of weeks.

I threw it around the classroom a lot too - throwing it to whichever kid needed it at the time etc.

Actually I do need another one and I do have an amazon voucher - won't get a huge one though as it's just not worth it for the time they last. I just use the unclaimed ones left in my classroom (those where NONE of the work has a name in the header/footer!!!)

 How galling, but what a 'nana! I always back mine up.. onto my secure section on the server at work, which is then backed up onto tapes in a fire-proof safe.

I have a friend in forensic IT who could probably retrieve it for him; perhaps someone has come forward after seeing the article in the paper.

Fred's right, it's like asking Bob the Builder to service your car.

I was thinking of trying that one next - would be good not to lose the lid. You can't tell from the pictures though if the hole is big enough to get a keyring through - I like to carry it on a stronger lanyard.
